  • Close Roker Pier ?

Fished Roker Pier on tuesday from 06-00 till 12-00 about 100 yard from the roundhead & I must say that it was the most disgusting sight I have ever seen on the pier. I am talking about the amount of litter that mindless yobs leave behind. I would not blame the council for shutting the pier. There was litter absolutley everywhere & although I did not go on the roundhead, a lad walking his dog said it was even worse up there. The thing I hated the most was the drunken chavs tossing everything all over the place. I had to move twice just to avoid them & finally ended up on the barrier. Whilst there I saw 5 more chavs walk past with 2 rods between them & 5 carrier bags of white diamond cider. Unfortunately this will only spoil things for the true anglers who just want peace & quiet & always take their trash home with them.
PS: No mackerel, 12 sandeels, 2 small plaice & 1 coley. All returned
I will only be out for a couple of hours pet.

personally i think it will be closed to anglers because of this very reason, a good idea might be to have the pier same as seaham north

Your dead right Jimmy, True anglers should just avoid the local piers, and let the chav's get on with it. and rather than get tarred with the same brush, the authorities might prosecute those responsible for causing a "public nuisance". Then we might get our fishing shots back.

We were on there saturday and saw a bunch of young chavs throwing a pop bottle and shouting racist abuse at a pakistani woman and her 3 bairns!!! On top of this all the usual rubbish, beer cans etc being dumped over the egde and the smell at the end of the pier who use the lighthouse as a toilet instead of the sea is disgusting. Police should patrol every weekend night as you're not allowed to drink in public anyway. I'm sure that would stop loads of them if their drink was being poured out. I even saw one of them with a pack of white powder in the box which only could have been one of two things. I have my rant about the same time every year. These idiot are killing verything we live for!

Roker pier and roker sea front are suposed to be alcohol free zones but nobody will take resposibility for the policing of this. The local police dont have the testicle fortitude and nobody else wants to know.
As I have grown older, I've learned that pleasing everyone is impossible,

yes i really cant stand this time of year on our piers, hence the kayak i can sit out there away from the chavs and catch more than i would on the pier.

yes but does`nt using a beach caster and set of feathers take away the sport/ fight of the fish, the idea of " macky bashing" is either a spinning rod or a very light rod so you can appreciate the fight given by the fish, not just to hook into them and haul them ashore

even when I was a kid I don't think I ever pulled them in beachcaster stylee - I quickly realised it's no fun at all...

I can see why some "proper" anglers who will use them as bait for "proper" fishing go down the beachcaster route - after all it's a means to an end in that respect...it's the numpties who endanger lives and create a nuisance that will ultimately be seen and unfortunately be the image that the non-fishing public come to regard as the "norm"

Make fishing on Piers for clubs or members only - that way things can be monitored and policed

i know quite a few lads that dont even bother going anywhere near the end the barrier is about as far as they go with float set up and a bag of rag or mackerel sprat etc and seem to enjoy the peace and quiet out the way hoping for some good sport float dipping ,, and i dont blame them either as it get shoulder to shoulder on the end part of the pier

its not just the chavs that are a pain in ones posterior, last week i was sorounded by 15 drunken poles on the end of the steetly and it was 6 am .but i think they were a higher class of chav, instead of the white lightning cider, they where downing bottles of red wine [a nice little fruity number with a hint of blackberry, and a after taste of almonds ]i know because a large polish gentelman came over to me with a bottle and said one word, drink, so out of friendly e.u.relations i had a gob full he left and they never bothered me again, all rather surreal on the end of the steetly.

I know how you feel mate, its the same at Blyth at times. I was looking forward to catching a few mackerel this year but so far only been on the pier once as I just feel uncomfortable when there are drunken people on. Think the best thing is to go at sunrise before they get on there
