nissan would not go arse up 100%, the government would not let it happen, they bankroll the place anyway so would never let it fail.

            Shop

Of course the big shops will tell you that you cannot have accounts!!!!

b8ker, I would have a serious think about if this is the right thing to do. Especially so close to Frasers. Frasers still struggle to get accounts because of Bagnall and Kirkwood in Newcastle, and Vica Vesa.

If you are set on the idea of opening a shop, change your location. If you think that you can make money on bait, think again. Like many others on here have said, there is NO profit on bait. Also, where were you planning on getting it all from?!

Making your own rigs is time consuming and will cost you a fortune in materials and time to make them, resulting in very little profit. Its ok thinking that you will make 10-20p on each packet of bait, or 50p on a rig, but you have overheads to pay and trust me, bait sales will not cover that also, you were thinking about giving discounts for large purchases, NO CHANCE!

It has happened hundreds of times in the past with small shops, and will happen hundreds of times again. Just a warning but seriously consider your options!

                New shop.

Hi B8ker. I hope the shop you are planning to open comes off, but if I were you I would think very hard before venturing into what is at the moment a very dodgy game to be in. I used to have a tackle shop back in the seventies and there is no way on this earth now would I ever have another.
I ring most of the coastal tackle shops between Amble and Whitby every tuesday to find out if anything has been caught for my column in the Chronicle. I know of three shops that are for sale because business is so bad, over the last week some of the top tackle shops in the south of the country have closed down, and these are major players not back street.
The majority of the top tackle manufacturers require you to spend between £3,000 and £5,000 as an opening order. Bait supplies are a nightmare, one weekend when I had my shop I put £350 worth of ragworm down the toilet, this was in the summer and the weather changed for the worse, everyone cancelled, the weather continued bad for almost a week, I still had the ragworm which as I said ended up down the toilet.
Also remember you have the V.A.T. man, the Tax man, weights and measures, self employed stamp, health and safety, lighting, heating, wages, rent, and everthing else that you would have to contend with being self employed in this country, and if you can't open the shop because of illness you don't get any help from the DSS you're on your own.
I'm not trying to put a damper on your plans just point out some of the pitfalls that you will have to contend with, if you were a single chap you could afford to take a risk but when you have a family, I would think very hard before going ahead. I hope that you do get started and if you do let me know and I'll give your shop a mention in the Evening Chronicle.
                Best of luck, Tight Lines.
                Sam.

I agree Sam. It's very risky at the mo. People haven't got the money and the fishings that bad they're not bothering to go out. One thing the north-east lacks mind is a brilliant coasre angling tackle shop. I've been to the ones in Darlington and Yarm (being a former keen match coarse angler) and they are different class! Only small places but full of gear and bits and bobs. Always got custom and top bait every time ive been in there. I don't know if they're struggling as well but if they are i certainly wouldnt bother.

er how many millions have the government given to nissan in the past???? many many!!!

Rover was very different, that was sold down the river by bmw and the trade unions and was a crap company with crap dated products. Nissan however does produce some decent modern reliable products (none that i would purchase though) so is probably ok in the long run. Nissan wouldnt be here in the first place without the taxpayers ££££££££££££££

I dont, I hope it works out. I had a little attempt at the ebay tackle game myself and it was really hard, didnt loose money but didnt make any meaningful profit either. its hard setting up on your own with the economy on its arse!

Economy big wigs are predicting the UK will be the worst hit as well...with the economy being in it's worst state for 60 odd years...prob is it's all true so there's little point burying heads in sand on this one as the effects are already starting to show

The cure is either higher taxes or less spending/borrowing...double edged sword if ever there was
                            Ooh a new vid!
