  • Braid shocker

Can anyone recommend any 80-100lb braid to use for shockers on a fixed spool.

Im after something reliable yet fairly cheap and in 300yd spools.

Anyone used any good chinese braid?

    Cheers

I use this when I'm fishing over heavy ground with braid and it's spot on mate. eBay: http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item...d=160906924084

Used that stuff a lot for luring/Piking and it`s decent braid. It`s a little overrated breaking strain wise, so it`d be wise to go a little stronger than you would normally to be on the safe side. Abrasion resistance isn`t bad and it knots well

Care to elaborate mate,? seen lots of posts with this type of reply and never did understand them, no attack or dissing your post, just a general question about it.

I've only used braid this last few months or so, I use 30lb on one of my spinning reel spools and don't really see any difference in it distance or fighting wise or strength wise. Mind when a fish breaks off, the lure doesn't half fly at you lmao, always found the leader which (I use 17lb mono leader) breaks first.

No bother mate. What I meant was that the stated b.s on the spool isn`t necessarily what the braid actually breaks at. Found this stuff breaks at less than the stated b.s, so if, say, you were wanting a reliable 30lb b.s, it would probably be best to buy 40 or 50lb in this stuff. If you bought the 30lb stuff, it`s more like 20lb in reality. Rather like mono, it pays to choose by diameter rather than breaking strains.
It`s decent stuff, very little difference to genuine Powerpro, as long as you choose breaking strains carefully

I might be missing a trick here but....

I use braid for spinning and lure work but was always told to use a short mono shock leader due to braids poor resistance to rubbing on rocks etc and fraying.... if that's true then why would you use a heavy braid shock leader? Not having a go just a genuine question as it has left me quite confused as a lot of people seem to agree that a braid shock leader works...

Spot on mate, exactly so. Always mono leader on braid main line works every time....

Not had problems so far so not necessarily true. I've been sursprised at how it's coped in heavy ground due to people saying it doesn't !

The reason I asked about braided leaders was because ive heard it works!! But maybe its all bull??

I went down the braid route on fixed spool a couple of years ago after being outfished on a couple of occasions by lads on the braid, not always but enough to notice it can have its day especially with smaller fish and when bites are subtle.

I had a 16ft penn afffinity, fox 12000, 40lb power pro so no problems with the gear..

Problem i found was the repeated crack offs and ring wrap, particularly when winding up a big cast. It was very frustrating and everything I tried failed to solve the problem.

I have been using continental gear this year with tapered leaders and have had no problems so its definitely the leaders causing the problem.

What i was wanting was a way to keep the heavy leader and not have to faff about with expensive tapered leaders and also a way of keeping the diameter down to cut the tide at range. I know power casting braid with a heavy 70-80 lb mono leader just doesn't work.

I use 66lb powerpro straight through, not power casting but no problems also fish reel down on my Century BB. Found this on WSF forum --Anybody tried Fixed spool reel down?- World Sea Fishing Forums | Sea Angling and Sea Fishing Online | Fishing Reports may be of some help.

I now backcast and have done 66lb power pro and the 100lb braid leader with no problems, no ring wraps or crack offs. I use an f/s down the rod on a bog standard ccc ld rung for a multi.
