just got back from one of the best fishing trips i have been on
headed over to teelin bay donegal for a few days tuna fishing with adrian malloy Home
adrian is one of irelands top tuna fisherman ,
after the long journey and a good sleep .we woke to pouring rain and 25mph winds ,
adrian told us to look out for gannets and shearwaters as they would be were the tuna would be
after a lot of motoring about we saw our first tuna busting through the water ,that was exciting enough ,a few hours later the reel starts screaming, tuna on
i was first into the fighting chair 50mins later a cracking 300lb tuna at the side of the boat what a tussel and fight it gave ,

fish getting tagged and released

after anouther 4 hours trolling with a few tuna hitting the lures and not getting hooked up ,we were on agian
next in the chair was davey

,what afish 1hour 50 minuites to get too the side and a monster of a fish 600lb plus ,after a few pics the fish was released

well i had to get my pic with that fish lol

no more that day so back to the digs and a few celebratery pints at the pub

day 2
sunny weather and no rain early start today 7am and were off out didnt take long to hook up with alain getting a 200lb plus fish by 9,30

then the cloud cover cleared and the fishing went dead ,just one more fish neede and we all would be in the tunny club lol
didnt look like it was going to happen ,started clouding over about 4pm and the fish started busting out and a few tuna hitting the teasers but not the lure ,
eventually we got the hook up that we needed and rab was in the chair

about an hour later a nice 350 lb tuna landed tagged and released

video of rabs getting a bit water through its gills before being released

what a few days we all had a tuna 600lb ,350lb ,300lb and a small 200lb plus fish ,think i might try and book up again for next year
thanks for reading jeff

Absolutely Fabulous Jeff. Never thought such a location would produce Tuna to 900lb. I mean flippin heck! how many little tins is that LOL.

To think that our coast used to be the European hotspot for those magnificent fish. It makes you want to cry. Please come back.

That's a cracking report, two lads told me about the write up so I logged in for the first time in about 6 months to view it.

I have watched all the wicked tuna programs and it does sound like you had the uk version of it. Its great to see people trying other types of fishing as us northeast anglers seem to have a very narrow mind to types of fishing out there.

Did you see many or try for any of the smaller tuna or did they just target the monsters?

Myself and couple that fish with me are always on the look out for new types of fishing and had been looking at Tuna fishing 3 day hosted trips from Italy, we have done Norway to death now and sampled many other types of Uk fishing but not Tuna.

May look into it soon, we are hoping to get booked and fish for the blue shark and porgies again but nothing will fight like a tuna I bet.

Anyway great report, worth logging in for the read, thanks

I think tuna dont fight at all....very controversial view...I know.
anyway, I use to be a "dekkie" (first mate:p:p) every holidays in Cape Town on a friends tuna charter. We dont get big Bluefins as the lads did (or Wicked Tuna), but Yellowfin Tuna grow up to 200lb there.
Big tuna are just like mackerels...well...only bigger. they are incredibly easy to hook up...they take anything....once hooked they just switch the tail onto 500/min and circle under the boat like a broken toy.
Fore the inexperienced angler it appears as if they run away when they are on one half of the circle.
the experienced angler let them go at that half and then frantically real them in when coming towards the boat. If you dont let them turn again, you can real them -head first- right to the boat. If you "play" a big tuna "wrongly" you have the most exhausting fight of a lifetime!!

Adrian the tuna King smashing bloke!

Get yourself booked up richy, it's one of them mind **** or bust! Normally just the big boys in them waters 150lb is small for that area normally 300-400+

Seen Adrian land a 800lber in downings what a fish what a sight.

Can't believe the few days fishing these chaps have had, gotta be in it to win it though !!

Cracking report lads well done, it's some sight seeing them big boys bursting out of the water.
