Whitley Bay Open 2008

Only 170 anglers turned out for the Whitley Bay Open with most of the top rods heading for the river where some good coalfish, codling and whiting where taken

Chris Stringer left everyone behind taking fish all through the match ending up with seven caolfish, two cod and three whiting for 13lb 13oz, his bag included a coalfish of 3lb 1oz. Steve Coverdale fished at Collywell taking second place with two cod for 7lb 11oz, followed by Richard Ancell with two cod for 7lb 2oz. There was a tie for the heaviest fish between Steve Coverdale and Darren Gains who fished at Hartley with cod of only 7lb 7oz 8drmas. Andrew James fished at Druridge to win the junior section with three flounders for 1lb 14oz, followed by Jason Crozier with a bass of 1lb 6oz. Although there was no ladies prize Pauline Ferry was the top lady and twentieth winning a Sonik rod, with five flounders 3lb 2oz, Ollie Feenan was tenth winning a Sonik rod.
Altogether 170 fished 39 weighed in 83 fish, mostly coalfish for 132lb.
