Whitburn/Souter - still feeling bitter

Had a busy 2 weeks and haven't been out as much. Soon as the sea lifted at the beginning of the week I was contemplating when I was going to be able to fit a session in. Didn't help I was seeing reports of fish all over my usual haunts.

However knew I'd be on night shift on Tuesday so decided I'd slave through that and hit the rock edges during the day on Wednesday. Fair enough it was day time but water was black so I was still hopeful of a fish or 2.

Got to the mark around 11ish and opted to fish a couple hours of the flood in the bay, perched on top of the main skeer. Bait was mainly cart and crab but had some blacks and razor also.

First chuck using cart/crab resulted in a slack liner which then produced a sized codling - exactly 35cm. Sign of a good session I hope.

Copulent of times a couple of people came down and asked how I was doing. Explained I was remaining hopefull!

Well you might guess what happened next.

I proceeded to miss 4 cracking bites on consecutive casts, all lunging at the bait hard then dropping straight away.
I Must have been getting wound up as my next cast went somewhat astray and landed right in the area where I knew there was a big jungle of kelp and rock. Thought "sod it" and just left it.
5 min later BANG - rod like a pogo stick, strike, fish on, head bumping away - 5 seconds later solid. Sickened.

By this time the skeer was becoming awash with the flooding tide so moved onto the flat rock on the South side of the mark.

here I was getting bites every chuck, but only small rattles. At this point a couple more had came down and started fishing.
Anyway 2nd from last chuck the bite was a little more positive so hit into it and could feel another decent weight and that telltale thump thump thump. This time fish was on for a little longer and felt better than the other one i had lost - unfortunately didn't get its head up quick enough and once again - solid....

So to summarise - I had a bit of a shocker. Came away in a foul mood with a right lip on - but at least having lost 12 leads my box was a bit lighter!

Still feel sickened now but hey that's fishing. Already planning the next one! ;)
