me paul galon and dave keeler headed up north looking for a rare species of fish called cod. we were on our mark for 3.30pm and the sea was as flat as a witches wotsits and the water was crystal clear with a big seal lurking nearby, things weren't looking good. we had a few chucks but nothing was happening so we moved to another mark, on the way i decided to take a tumble on the rocks  i was more bothered about my rod than me :D anyway we got set up and in went the first baits, paul got a call of his mate who went to the mark we were on first and he'd got a 4.5lb codling on his first chuck :( we plodded on and i christened my new rod with a granny fish :( i wish i'd took a picture of it as it had the best markings ive ever seen, no snotty green on this beauty, it was a green/brown colour with lovely red markings off living in the kelp. dave got a nice pull on his rod but it never came back so off we went on another move to the craster area which was crap so we chucked in the towel just after 9.

new rod.
ive just got myself a mk3 apollo 14ft. if anyones thinking about getting one i'd say go and get one. it is easily the best rod ive used, ive got a platinum xs and a mk2 apollo, this is a different class compared to those two. ive fished with the reel up the rod for 15 years and i decided to try the reel down on this one, i done ok but once it got dark i found it hard. i was hoping for a cod bite to see what the bite detection was like but i wasn't to be.

there's always next time :D

Nice to hear of a good story regarding a Greys rod ;)

Persevere with the reel down Tony and it get's easier - and it adds inches to your cast honest :D

Shame on the lack of fish but I think that's the story of it at the minute...am out tonight to hopefully prove myself wrong :)

i love the greys rods tony, ive hammered my mk2 and platinum and ive never had any bother with them.

as for the reel down i think i need to get on a football field and spend a few hours.

good luck for tonight mate.

Makes two of us - and I know your fishing partners from last night are the same ;)

My platinum is in dire need of a re-build once the season is finally over - still with all it's original rings too :D

I had a mk1 apollo, used it all over from rocks, piers, beaches, never had any probs(had cod to 8lb)on it.Yet others used to say"it,ll snap m8 few inches from tip",each to their own suppose.Mind i did snap a conoflex super flick tip years ago.

i fished up north too, just past the great north rock, round the corner from the giant piece of grass on the headland then turned left at the wood pigeon and right at the magpie and i still blanked ! :o
