First off I have got to say an enormous thank-you to Norman for his help and assistance in our move to Royal Quays. Top top bloke. Nothing is too much trouble and he has given us such a foot up the ladder for fishing from the Tyne it is unbeliveable as well as taking us out and showing us how to do it!

The day off started after about an hours sleep as I was that wound up and excited I was a jibbering wreck on Saturday night in anticipation of getting afloat. All things were running through my mind; will the weather be ok and has the sea dropped off? Will the water be manky? Will we catch anything?
Will the boat be ok?
We got to the marina and after fueling up it was off out of the piers to a lazy swell which was big at times.
The first drift over the first wreck it was Micky with the honours of the first codling ever over The Cowpen Queen's gunnels;

I duly followed up with a double shot of whiting;

After a move to another wreck to get some clear water Micky hit into the first double and first ling aboard taken on a shad;

We moved to another wreck to accompany Norman and Tony and arrived to see them into fish;

It was cracking action and I had a good scrap with this one to a twintail;

A look across to Slinky Kate saw Tony's rod hooped and what a whopper it was;

A cracking yarker followed up by Norman with this yarker;

Another species new to the Cowpen Queen blessed our gunnels and here's Micky with the boats first Pollack;

More rod bending action all the way to slack water;

The last photo of The Cowpen Queen in the lock accompanied with mackeral guts, blood and other assorted gunk! What happened to the new shiney boat??????

The gleaming white was restored after a bit of a scrub down!
To sum it up a cracking day with great company where we got our first double for the boat and a load of other firsts. Darren had an absolute nightmare and spent more time losing gear than anything else but he pulled through in the end! The boat performed amazingly and so did my new rod and reel, I am over the moon with my Fin Nor, the narrow spool makes the loss of the level wind I am used to easier to take!
The only frustrating thing was not being able to open the engine up due to the running in process but two more trips and it will be full ahead and hold on tight!
Can't wait for the next weather window! I am still smiling today!!!!!!:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

i can remember running ours in....nightmare..but, when it's done...yeeharrr !

21kns at 4100rpm on ours...thats fast enough eh :rolleyes:

i like the bait table.....;)

About time there was a CQ report :D, I was beginning to think you weren't going to put one up, Micky likes his doubles, I'd love to know where I'm going wrong with the big fish, I can catch as many cod and ling as I want but how to catch the big ones is baffling me:confused:
If I don't get a double this year I'm going to follow one of the Tyne boats next year, Slinky,Shady,Stingray,Cowpen Queen....and a host of others all doing the business with big fish.
Great to see you out in your new boat lads, I know how much you have been looking forward to it ;), :D

Doubles is luck pure and simple...only my third ever in the five years I've been fishing with Norm

Yeah, luck to a vast amount but I think where you are counts a bit, not that there's any secrets in it just the further out you go the chances of biggies increase and so the bigger the fish are (generally) ..... allowing for the obvious odd ones out that we all sometimes find time to time inshore ... of course, sometimes there's zilch after travelling far which can be somewhat frustrating :).... just a view anyway ...

Great report Graham, (and cheers for the photos of slinky, we rarely get that perspective :) ). Good to see you, Micky and Darren out there and especially good to see the fish make a showing .....

Here's to good times ahead ....

cheers

Champion report Graham, yous are out of the starting blocks, and what a great start.:D Well done on the double Micky, and the ling, and the pollock.
It's gonna be harder still when you have to go back to work Graham now you've had a taste of the wrecks off the Tyne.
Cowpen queen looking fantastic, and I'm sure there'll be plenty more dirty decks to scrub pretty soon.:D:D

There must be some seriously lucky anglers out there then Tony , seems the same blokes catch the big fish on a regular basis, I know from my freshwater fishing days specimen hunters went where the big fish were, it's no good fishing a lake that only holds 2lbers if you want to catch a ten pounder, sea fishing is somewhat different though as it's all the same sea. It does seem though that further south produces more big fish than amble does

21knts at 4100 would be lovely!!! Two more trips until the oil change and away we go. They might be accomplished this weekend looking at the forecast!!!:):):)

I know what you mean about the biggy's Ray, wrecks all the way for us which was one of the pulls of the tyne, more wrecks! Another thing that always confuses me is you turn up at a wreck to find it with fish, all in the 3-5lb range, do you stay and hopefully pick up a biggy eventually or head off???:confused:

Great report and a lovely boat lads.

I have a theory the bigger fish are lazy feeders and would rather take a nice big lump of fresh mackeral than chase a pirk or shad, but in reality they'll probably go for anything put in front of them, i.e. right time right place, which in my opinion isn't just pure luck, it's down to the skipper's skills.
