Having been woken up at 07:30hrs to be told we were fishing things didn't turn out too bad.
The three of us fished the Hard Ground off Sunderland for around four hours today until the weather turned. (wind went N.E.)
Starting conditions were good with wind about 5mph N.W. and a lazy swell.
Anchored and boat casting using flowing traces and all the usual baits we ended up with the following-:
Cod x 29 up to 5lbs (Biggest fish Davey Bolam)
Whiting x 8 to 2lbs
Pouting x 1 to 2lb
Coalfish x 1 to 1.5lbs
It was a little to bumpy for any cooking today so we were stuck with Quiche, Cold Sandwiches and Mars Bars. Very poor.
Cheers,
Jeff.

Hi Davy,
Yeah there were a few boats out. All that anchored did well. Saw one guy trying to drift. What he was hoping to catch today was beyond me. I bet he was doing 2kts.
The full time trawler lad we know also had a good day....as he's out every day possible he keeps us well informed.
Sea had quite a swell on this morning but as the flood tide came through it started to flatten off. As the tide was slowing up the wind changed N.E. approx 12-15mph. This picked the swell up again and white horses started to appear. Perfect pier conditions mate. Got a little uncomfortable for us.
It's a pity you couldn't fish the "3rd arch" mark you like tomorrow....I guess it's out of bounds and you're too honest. Thats where we were anchored. However, not the usual 150 yds off but about 300-350yds. The swell prevented us from getting to close We would have been hit by swell from the sea in-over and the deflection from the wall !!! You know how safety concious Davey is.......quite right as well.
We were actually fishing on a lump that went from 3.9Fa down to 7Fa in a space of 30 yds....perfect, the bottom was all rock and kelp as well. Thats' great ground in that area mate....no wonder you bag up each time.
Cheers Jeff.
