Well myself and my father in law Mel Jones fished the comp. again ,I had thought to myself that it was going to be a flattie bashing session as it was two years ago with it being soflat this week ( I think it was then ) so off we went to Alnmouth beach ,when we got there I was suprised to see the sea was running a bit and to be honest I thought ..should we have a look at Lynemouth maybe Bog Hall or even just the beach ,however we decided to carry on with plan "A" and see what happened ,I got a flounder over a pound at within the first hour and Mel found a one a bit smaller washed up with a trace still hanging out of its gob ,unfortunately it was dead and we couldn't return it although it wasn't weighed in as Mel is too honest to do anything like that as I'm sure most of us are ..we all hate cheaters eh !!.
Anyway I weighed in one flounder over a pound ,nice to say hello again Mr.Charlton, and that was it .
Well done to the winner with a bag of 25lb from BOG HALL ROCKS, and another lad I spoke to had an 8lber from Lynemouth beach .

You didnt miss much Steve, Fished Snab Point, lovely sea running along skeers, had one for 1lb 11. it was the only fish I saw. The last hour looked promising, especially when Tony Taylor appeared, but not even his angling skills could produce a fish. I did have another fish slackline me three times before I was able to strike, needless to say there was nowt there when I did eventually try a set the hook.
Paul Westmoorland had the fish off Bog Hall. Baits and distance......say no more....

As long as you get to your destination on time nothing else matters Steve. You know that mate.
You want to get to the same spot this year with a stop off on the way and STILL be in PERFECT time for breakfast.
Just let me know lol, I'm your man.

Like many others I didn't get a sniff in the comp on Sunday. It was a tremendous achievement for Westie to take such a bag when you consider that the fishing has been poor, the sea has been calm and clear and it was a very small tide.
Before the comp started I looked at Bog Hall and the North end of Lynemouth and although it looked fishy the rocks at the High side wern't even showing. I plumped for the Boathouse rocks and after 3 hours went to the Coastguards at Snab. Both marks looked mint but did not produce.

Hello out there,
Fished Embleton, as with 13 year old daughter thought there would be lots of flattiies. Caught nowt, daughter caught 2 for 2lb 11oz biggest 1lb. 9oz.
She was chuffed to bits to win a reel and beat her dad.
Just a thought for the future though. If more women and juniors are to be encouraged to fish there needs to be more incentive, perhaps slightly lower 1st prize and have a second and third, my daughter was well pleased at "nearly" getting a heaviest flat prize, and it has certainly encouraged her to have another go next year.
But what do I know?

Have a look at the post for New Hartley SAC Open
For quite a few years now we have had free entry for juniors adn have 1st, 2nd & 3rd prizes. It's usually a rod and reel followed by rod and then reel or similar. On top of that we give a prize to all the juniors whether they catch or not if they return to the weigh-in. They must be accompanied by an adult for safety.
It doesn't cost a great deal as there aren't a great deal of them fishing but it helps encourage them. You see the success when a few yaers back a junior fishing his first competition came all the way from Durham with his parents, who don't even fish, took advice and fished the pier cathing a flounder. He was only one of two juniors to catch and went away with a new rod or reel.
On top of that his mother won a Greys Apollo in the raffle. He was advised to trade it in and get some gear more suited to him.
About two years ago Steven Smith from Newbiggin entered the main table and took fifth place. There is scope out there for the young ones to be helped.
