St Peter's Basin, 12 July 15

Hi all,

Not the most exciting of catch reports but I thought I'd share anyway.

I fancied an easy session today and ended up heading down to the basin for a few hours. I had a root about in the freezer and took along some sticky blacks, mussel and peeler legs. No live bait as I intended to fish before the shops opened.

I'm not sure if it was due to an increase in fresh water with all the rain we've been having lately, or that I hadn't got any live bait but it was hard going. I had a few bites which resulted in two little coddies and a couple of crabs.

There were a couple of jetskiers flying up and down the river at well over the speed limit. My 20lb mono would have been snapped off no trouble but I imagine braid could do some damage if they got it round their necks :o I was also aware that I was constantly being watched by an old couple on their balcony - I've heard there's a petition to stop fishing around the basin...

Cheers,
James

Sorry tommy I'm a bit confused. Is there an actual byelaw or was it just the officer who had got the wrong end of the stick? It's my understanding that some residents have put up no fishing signs but that the signs have no power - yet. I've also heard that tyne authority (or what ever they are called) removed some false signs in the past.

yeah the officer said it is in the bye-laws but they dont want to enforce it if possible she said it was only the places that had houses on the promenade you can fish anywhere there are no houses but as she said it was only the idiots the residents wanted to stop fishing there

Alan charlton wrote a post back in 2009 about by laws at St. Peter's when some signs went up. He contacted the port of tyne who said they had been placed there by an unknown. Probably worth contacting port of tyne again mate to see if that situation has changed

The bit about the houses on the promenade makes sense. I've not had a good look around there but I'd imagine having a lead swinging near your windows isn't something I'd want!
