Pher and I decided to try South shields Pier on Monday, and arrived at midday for a 3pm tide.

Having never fished there before we had done some research on here and online, and was aiming for some marks near the blocks/rubble, but the strong easterly wind, and swell was crashing the waves over, and with our lack of knowledge of the area we decided to stay near the first gate, and fish into the mouth.

a few hours passed, and mixed baits of fresh/frozen lug, mussel, rag, squid all resulted in no fish, although a few missed bites, by 18:00 we decided to head to the Rathouse, another new location.

The plan here was to fish light, and try for some small species, after reading about a few being caught on Sunday.

We were not dissapointed, and with size 3 hooks, and lugworm on a 3 hook flapper I quickly notched up Dab, rockling, Coaley and Codling. The fish definitely coming alive as the sun dropped below the horizon. (and the wind got colder!)

We had the LRF gear with us as well and were getting some good sport on there, albeit with a few snags losing gear, and needing upto 1 Oz weight to get to the bottom in the fairly fast current.

Nothing big coming in but at least some action.

Pher managed a new species for the lure comp on Isomes, with this 3 bearded rockling

we left at 21:00 with at least a few fish landed, after a hard week.

Not my usual host of photos I'm afraid as I was focussing on (my dismal) run of fishing as it was my last session, as I'm heading back to London tomorrow :(

Thanks guys on here for your advice yesterday.

Canny session for you there lads. The Ratty never fails to produce something. Did you catch on the isomes in the dark or was that earlier on?

That one was caught at 20:01 so just as it was getting dark
There were more rockling caught on isomes after, but the Codling/Dab/Coley's (+more rockling) all fell for worm.

Isomes were working in the dark, no problem. We were commenting on that, as it adds in the confidence with them.
