Hi all, great day today!
Had an early start, arrived on the pier and reached the round end for around 8:30am, was a bit blustery but nevertheless, it was quite mild. My friend Stephen (BestNest) arrived about an hour or so later.
Fishing was pretty slow to begin with, plenty bites but nothing was taking. At around midday, maybe a little later, the wind eased to almost non-exsistant and the weather turned lovely.
I noticed a small knock on my rod, and though nothing of it. As I went to retrieve my gear, I got the same small few taps on the rod, nothing big, so decided to wait until it bit again before striking. When it bit again, I struck, and that is when all hell broke loose! The rod shot over and the fish was making every attempt to get away, not once did it ease up, put up a great spirited fight all the way in.
Once I got the fish to the side, BestNest landed the fish from down the steps. It looked bigger from above, but still when I finally got to see it it was a lovely fish, my new PB Cod of 6lb 5ozs.
After that, the fish came on better, with the whiting making an appearance. I managed another Codling of 1lb 8ozs, and a good sized whiting. BestNest got a whiting and a Codling around 2lb. One lad next to us landed what I can only be described as the biggest whiting I've ever seen, it measured 49cms!
. Had to weigh close if not over 2lb.
Once darkness fell and everyone left, I fished one for another hour. Managed a few more decent bites but nothing come of them. Packed up around 5:15pm and headed home. Very good days fishing with good company and good banter.
Pics to hopefully follow soon. Big thanks to BestNest for landing my new PB for me
