Smashed my P.B !!!!!

Welll with the recent no show of the cod, sick of wasting top quility bait and there being nout on tele me and me cousin decided to have a session tonight to see if we could pick a decent flatty/whitey up on light tackle.. so we got out our spinning rods and 525mags loaded with 15lb line and a shocker and decided to give the pilot pier a shot to see if there was out in the mud on the chanell. we took down about 15 crab a couple packs of frozen yellow tails and anything else old that was in the freezer !! i also told me cuisin to grab a few makerel fillets incase there was any whities there. we got there about 7pm and i set up with a 2 hook flapper loaded with size 4 long shanks and a 3oz plain lead. for the first few casts i baited half a crab on each hook and none of us had a bite , i decided to start fishing crab on bottom hook and a strip of makerel on top hook to try and get a whitey or something ( desperate ) lol. any way i cast out into the channell and stood talking and me cousin says yav got a bite i turned n seen my tip tapping away as i walked towards me rod it arched over and continued to tap, i picked it up and lifted into the fish and me nexave big game bent double lol at first the fight was quite frantic head shakes so i said i dont think its a cod as i got it further in it started to nod like a cod so i said it could be like ( it was quite quick nods ) so wasnt sure maybe id hooked a stray cod on my crab bait? . as i played it to near the star blocks ... ( was it a decent cod ?? ) heard me cousin shout F*ckin Hell yav got a massive PLAICE!! i reeld down and got my leader not on my reel and swung it over the wall . id just landed a really big plaice . ive seen big plaice on the trawlers and i new this one was easy 3lb plus. any way i took my tiny size 4 hook out of its mouth and yes it was on my top hook baited with a strip of makerel !! i got my scales out of my bag and me cousin colin is saying its a 4lber !! i wasnt sure i said its over 3 but i dont no if it will go 4lb. any way i put it in a carrier bag and weight it.. JACKPOT it went 4lb 2 oz. i got a few quick fotos on me cousins phone as my cyber shot was nakered. i then climbed back down the rocks and released it ! and watched it dart off back towards the channell. its gut was really puffed out as if full of spawn but its a bit early i thought so maybe it had been off chasing them sandeels with the cod and decided to come inshore for a different taste of food lol ! anyway i have caught lots of flounders dabs etc as a kid but nout above maybe 1lb and i can never remember catching a plaice and ive always concentrated on the cod ! this fish opened my eyes and is a new P.B plaice and my first haha !! the pictures do not do the fish justice but i will upload the pic were im holding it tomoro when i get it off me cousins phone. u will see its head is at my chin and its tail is down to me pocket on me crossflow and im 6 foot 1 and about 19 n half stone. im still buzzing now..... SST and TTR going in the cuboard and me spinning rods and mags are out (haha oj) . still buzzing now !:D

Cracking read that mate, and congratulations on your PB, one hellova fish anywhere. Good on ya for experimenting and a great result:D:D

Well written ,an exciting read.In the all our yesterdays section theres a big description of how many of these big flatties(bin lids) used to be in the Wear...sadly wiped out so respect for putting it back although I must admit I would have eaten it !
 
That's a very good plaice mate - looking forward to seeing the piccy. Well done on the pb as well, can't see you beating that in the near future!

thanks lads i was buzzing and still am ! me owld man said he wud of scranned it and when i foned our lass to tell her id got a good un she said oh plaice are we eating that? lol i had to tell her id just released it haha. but it was elish seeing it swim away im gunna try and get the pic up now !

well ive opened a photpbuket acount n that and i av tried to add the pic to this thread and it just comes up as a little red X ? any help would be apreciated im not the cleverest on computers ....n thanks in advance

Looking forward to seeing the piccs, my pb Plaice was a smidge under 3lb and that one was massive, 4lb 2 is a proper bin lid no wonder you are buzzing.
 
managed to post a link into my photobucket acount so hopefully yas can see the pic as i said it was taken on a little mobile phone as my camera nacked up on my cyber shot and i wanted to get the fish released to i got 1 on me cousins phone, so it does this big fish no justice wat so ever but as im 6foot1 and about 19 n half stone u can see how wide and long it is and it was at least 3 inches thick. let me no if yas can see the pic . cheers

And ye put it back ! Well ye know what's gonna happen now.................... everyone's gonna go down to the Pilot Jetty at Hartlepool to catch their P/B best Plaice. Seriously though mate ....well done ! Iv'e always maintained, if you have a bait in the water ...........you have a chance of a fish, regardleess of the conditions, and it certainly was true for you.
Well done once again, but like a few others have already said; I would have eaten it !
 
well done on catching the bin lid. Reaaly good to see some good news instead of poor reports. I,d be forwarding the pic to Sea Angler.
