Lets be honest, its been a difficult season .........
here we are in June and still praying for decent weather and having to go to the coast for a look out first to check things are ok ...... lets hope next season starts earlier .....
A Sunday report today which just emphasizes the run of bad weather we've had, not the best day to start out at 3.00am considering work is looming just 24 hrs away

Anyway, met up at 3.45am with Tony my trusty deckhand in the marina carpark as arranged and teamed up with Micky and Graham and mate on their new boat Cowpen Queen. We were kind of running shotgun for the lads with Slinky Kate as a new boat is always a little worrying at first but, as expected, she performed perfectly today putting the first few vital hours on the engine .......
Out the piers after fuel up and we were met with a bit of a lumpy and roll sea with the easterly wind effect still visible. Unfortunately with the vast amount of rain we have seen over the past few days the water was a dark chocolate brown streaming from the river and out to sea.
Met up with bert and Keith on Shady at about 4 miles but still even this far out the water was stained brown ... needless to say the catch reflected this ie ...
nowt.
From there it wasn't a difficult decision ..... out east to escape the coloured water ..
What a great decision ....
At about 5 miles we had a text from Keith about dolphins and displays ....
things you hear about but seldom see ...... but here it was , as quick as I could read the text they were upon us too
about a dozen or so ... literally playing with the boat crossing the bow and diving underneath, jumping out the water and swimming alongside.
Difficult to capture on film because every time you see one they disappear just as quick ... but we got a couple of shots ..... then they left ...
We got to a wreck and met up with bert and Keith at about 8 mile and the water (at last) was showing white in the boats wake.
This was a wreck I'd visited recently and one of the few on the day that had held fish .......
well .... that's it ... report almost over as we spent the rest of the morning over the same wreck

Truth is it was a beaut
with fish being taken every drift and bigger and bigger and bigger ......
Tony had a white faced moment (well when I say moment, I mean 5 minutes) as he pulled in our best of the season, his personal best of all time and now the current leader of the Royal Quays Heaviest fish competition with a beauty cod of 18.5 lbs (was sure it was a 20lb when weighed at sea but that must of been the swell
)
Not to be outdone I quickly after found myself a double figure fish with a 12.5lb specimin, my first double of this season.
Whilst we were pro activly pulling in fish of course the lads on Cowpen Queen were also doing their bit (I'm sure a report will surface)
All in all a great day out, even though it's been difficult of recent times due to the weather then that in itself makes the good moments better.
Great Day out, great fishing great company and as ever many thanks to my crew of the day ... Tony, and .... a great well done on the 18.5 lb fish (weighed after cleaning for marina comp as 17lb)
a few pics of the day .... (I'm yet to experience a decent sunrise... )
Cowpen Queen at fuel up ....
Dolphins ahoy ...
My first of the day ......
And Tone's ..
And another ...

Cowpen Queen Digging in .....
And then ... Tony's monster 18.5 lb Cod .....
And not to be outdone a 12.5lb for me ...

Looks like we are gonna need a bigger box
Cowpen Queen ...........
An Excellent Days fishing
cheers for reading ...
