Whoooo hoooo what a scorcher day at last, and, with fish

Tony and Scotty out with me today, hopefully with not as hard going as last week turned out to be ...
Out of the piers for around about 4.30am where our guide for the day (shady and crew) waited in anticipation.
We were about to try a close in wreck with bait but with a few reports of good fish on the end of the flood and that end being only an hour away berts words of follow me sounded music to my ears ...
A short steam later we were drifting the “hot spot” … unfortunately several drifts gave nothing, not even a pestering whiting ….
The lads on Shady gave the signal they were moving on and throttled up …....... just as I dug into my first of the day
, a nice 5lb codling ….
Then it was scottys turn with another codling which he hoped was about to beat his pb of 7.5lb but unfortuntely came up as only 6.5lb ....
haha it's good so say "only" when referring to fish of 6.5lbs
seems times are turning ...... (at last).
the next 45 minutes were manic with all sorts taking the hook whether bait, or lure or both with several fish being lost due to their "scrapping power
" the best of this particular bunch being to myself with a catch of an 8lb beauty .........
although biting his lip gritting his teeth and crossing his fingers it seemed for the time being that Tony was only playing a bit part in these proceedings with nought but scotchies to show for his endeavours ... but all was to change
Scotty on the other hand thought it was christmas with presents galore .........
As the tide dropped off the bites settled and we were in for the usual lean spell ....
We covered many a mile in this lean spell picking up fish here and there and eventually Tony turned on the charm with the rod and he too boated a fine 8lb cod, that took the pressure off and cod seemed to flow a lot easier thereafter
Whiting seemed to be everywhere but cod of good size were not quite as common although got to say the catch today was awsome with a full box of fish to fillet and bag for home.
A few highlights of the day were Scotty's with a 6 hook daylight trace .....
yes, true that means 6 mackerel at a time .... what a mess to clear up

Again another highlight of the day was Scotty cheering himself on when he boated his (first ever) ling
no doubt the video when I get it together will show ....
biggest buzz was trying to video Keith with a catch on Shady as both Tony and I dug into fish at the same time .... camera in one hand rod in the other ... crikey how do you wind in ..... haha scotty took over the video and all was fine
All in all a great day today with many a fish for the box, great company as ever both on board Slinky and also on the acompanying boats.
Hopefully (especially for Scotty after a hard session last week) we've shown what fun it can all be when a plan comes together ...
and don't worry the pb will be upped soon enough ...
roll on the next session ....
as ever a few pics of the day.....
the closest we've been to a sunrise this year ...
My first of the day ..
Shady at speed ...
At one point we thought this was going to be Tonys best .....
Scottys first of the day ....
and with one of his many whiting .....
Tony with his 8 lbder ..
A prime moment all digging in to fish ......
and the multi catch .....
...
after some amount of celebration as it hit surface, Scottys first ever Ling ..
and just as a big bonus it's fish and chips all around
....
Thanks for reading
cheers
