It was the second comp of the year for SSBAC this morning, we all met at the club house at about 7am, I fully expected it to be called off but the committee decided it was a goer (nothing to do with NUFC being at home next weekend :D) so 5 boats set off at 8am.

Bert, Jim, Kyle and myself aboard Shady, it was a bit of a struggle getting over the bar but once outside the piers it was just about fishable. A few boats headed north, one brave boat headed straight out, we just stuck to our favorite in shore marks. My first bait had just hit the bottom and fish on, sadly just an under size pouting. Next drift I managed a codling of about 2lb and then Kyle landed a cod about 5lb but the strong tide with wind was blowing us off the mark before the fish could grab the bait so Bert changed location to the other side of the estuary entrance. As usual a good decision, he landed 5 fish for no reply a couple also about 5lb :).

We all picked away but conditions weren't getting any better so when the hailstones started about 12pm we called it a day.

Shady crew tally: Bert - 6 codlings, 1 pouting, Keith - 4 codlings, 1 pouting, Jim - 3 codlings, Kyle - 2 codlings.

Back at the weigh in Bert won the heaviest bag & Skull (fishing aboard Rainbow Star) won the heaviest fish with a nice ling over 11lb - Well done lads.

Had better mornings afloat :D, but thanks all the same Bert & crew. :)

Well done to all club members who turned out in tough conditions.

Yes well said Keith it was a bonus the comp being on (a bit unexpected)
But at least we got a few for the pan ,and i wish Jim a speedy recovery as he had a bit of a lip on :D i'm sure he will explain
Here's to some fine weather for a change

Great report Keith, and as usual Bert got
us on the few fish that were about, yes
it was hard going with that sea and breeze,
but at least Bert won the comp.
BTW Antihistamine soon kicked in 😷
Thanks for a great morning afloat and a swift drop ashore Bert.
Nice to see Kyle enjoying his fishing.
