As far as I know you are supposed to have a key for the sidegate at the top when the guard locks the main gate.

However down at the base of the pier is a missing section of fence where you can get out and walk along the beach to some steps up the cliff and then you're off.

sorry for the delay, yes you need a key from the club for access, although plenty just climb up the side from the inside bay!
