yup.
one or 2 limitations as the ipod touch is basically an iphone without a phone in it. everything else is identical - operating system, framework etc,
not having a phone built in, geolocation via cell phone towers won't work and nor will gps, but there's rumours they're going to include the gps module in a new touch due out in august. the app framework for gps
is built in though, but not the hardware. there's a few people out there adapted little bluetooth usb recievers to work though, few movies of it on youtube (search for 'iphone gps') there's a gps reciever ont he markey that is bluetooth and wifi so is easy to use apparently but I haven't tried it.
TomTom have their software ready for market but apple won't allow them to release it tillt he new iPhones are in shops next month, saw a demo last month and its identical to the normal tom toms, but better in that it automatically updates itself via the web every time you turn the phone on
to unlock the phone is a doddle. stick it in iTunes, and makes sure you've the latest software installed.
go to
ZiPhone's Blog
and download the ZiPhone app. run it, plug the pod in, click the unlock button and you're done!
once it unlocks the pod/phone, it sticks an application on called Installer (dur!) so if you've got a wifi connection, run that app and it'll pull a list from loads of web sources of applications that will run on the thing.
just tap on the app you want and it downloads and installs
both the iphone and iPod touch run the same Unix operating system that makes macs do there stuff so once you lift the bonnet, there's no ender of potential. I've even seen a copy of photoshop running on one!
I stuck a nintendo emulator on mine among other things and downloaded masses of nintendo games!
if it all goes wrong, plug it back into itunes and click restore - resets back to how it was and relocks it. pretty bomb proof things
