Went out for a spin yesterday fished all over wrecks hard ground never got a bite but being a glutten for punishment i headed out this morning not expecting much whivh was just as wrll coz by the end of my shift my tally was only 2 42cm codling not worth photographing but returned to get a bit bigger and i also got a bonus octopuss i was going to keep it for darren but in the end let it go by the sound of the other skippers there wasnt much fish about for anyone oh kelsey leigh the charter boat out of the foyal quays sounds as if hes had a good day he went further north so thats where i will be 2morra

That's a grand looking octopus!

It was pretty quiet today down on Cresswell too. I had 4 codling of a similar size to you on lug, and there were some coalies up to 1lb around in the kelp which grabbed some red and yellow mini sandeels.

Water clarity is still not great. Temp is 9 degrees, so mackie are still some ways off. A few terns diving but very few puffins in the water off Coquet. It's possible they're all nesting I suppose.

There were 5 other boats on the skeers, including a charter boat, but by 2.00 pm they had all gone, and the seas were pretty lumpy at that stage thanks to a freshening easterly, so I nipped back in to allow enough water under the keel at the mouth of the river.

I spoke to some lads in a Riever early on and they'd not had much luck around Hauxley. The boat I followed back into the marina had gone north and hadn't caught anything. I gave my left-over lug to a couple of lads fishing the pier, and by the sounds of it, shore sport hasn't been great either.

Still, it was good to give the boat a run and scrape off the underwater growth. It looks like it will be a settled week, so will be good to read your reports on how you get on.
