new reel

My abu's gave me a bit of jip this summer , my fault entirely I might add seeing as I stripped them down to clean and lubricate them and put them back together wrong  Anyhow , even after I'd got them back working the way they should I reckoned one day they would give up the ghost and decided to have a new reel ready and waiting.
All of the advice on here is to go for a lever drag , and the tld 15 seems very popular , unfortunately though I've spent the best part of 50 years winding the handle with my left hand , so that was out of the question.
For a decent boat multiplier in left hand wind there isn't a great deal of choice, I was beginning to think abu was going to get another order:(
I looked all over the internet and came up with abu, omoto, snowbee, accurate and avet that sort of fitted the bill , and some of these would end up with a canny bill as well .......... to pay
I'd never seen any of them in the flesh apart from the abu's and I doubt any are stocked locally , so it was hard to get an idea of size and power of these reels , they looked good in the pictures but trying to get some sense of size was difficult so I e-mailed a shop in the usa and asked what they compared to in size and told him what I'd be fishing for and he suggested the avet sx.
After a lot of thought about it I gave in and ordered an avet sx 5.3-1 , in left hand wind, the entry level model of avets whole range.
It arrived today , it looks and feels lovely , but whether I'll ever get used to fishing with it only time will tell , the abu's have a level wind , the avet doesn't, the abu's have automatic spool pick up by cranking the handle , the avet doesn't , the abu's have a drag for the line out speed , the avet doesn't.
So........... I can see it now , hang the lead over the side of the boat and click the lever back to free spool , the lead descends to the bottom of the deep blue sea and I forget about the speed of the spool and get a birds nest , I wind the handle and nothing happens and when I realise why and move the lever back to strike as they call it, I eventually hook into a monster and wind her up .................. half way when the reel stops dead because I forgot to lay the line level as I was winding and the bulge of line is hitting the frame :red::D . The next model up has a magnet cast on it , I didn't think it would be any use on a boat ,but the speed that line comes off the free spool it's maybe what I should have got.
It might end up being an expensive ornament :D

:D ray it will take you less than 10 minutes to get the hang of it:exclam::exclam: trust me;);)

if i can show a complete novice how to use a multiplyer on a boat in a few mins, you have no worries

mind one or two take a wee while longer:D:D
