Headed off to the above for a long weekend camping and fishing from early friday till dinnertime sunday with Madrob and Outcast Chris
Got there at 12ish found a lovely spot threw the quarry and past flat rock which we named Crabstick Creek. Set 2 tents up and a den made from a tarpauling tied to a couple of trees which was a godsend as it lashed down
Within 10 mins tents up and 6 big rods out hoping for rays and spurdogs which were our target fish
Got to say this part of the world is like a fishermans dream the scenery was spectacular
Rob set up his lrf rod and bang straight into a small coalie and hes winning our little comp lol. Set mine up and 2 casts resulting in a small pollack and my favourite species a starfish
A few bites on the big rods but no connection for a few hours until chris pulled in our 1st of 10 thornback rays we were buzzing about 2lb after 3hrs and only pulling in small stuff blennies . Kelpy cod sea scorpions we thought time for a bbq for tea
Small stuff coming in plus crabs we were hoping nightfall would bring in the fish which proved to be true
Rob gets a lovely ray about 2lb and then chris another i was getting a bit dis-heartened keep changing rigs. On went my illuminous hokkaiis baited with squid which resulted in my 1st ever spurdog only a couple of lbs but buzzing . Went to kip at 2ish in morning soaking wet but buzzing catching sea fish in a lake lol
Back up at 8 and out with the rods and breakie on the stoves.
This was a day we will never forget fish from start to finish resulting in 13 species for us and some moments you cant believe happened lol
As the rain stopped and started so did the fun haha starting with chris thinking hes into a big ray for it to be a bottle full of water with the lid on which he dragged in . Then rob slipped as he cast out and his sinker ripped a giant hole in my tent about a foot squared haha.
Back to the fishing i pulled my 1st ray in mint feeling . Rob had another plus a bonus of a brown trout in a sea loch caught on squid. I ha been saying all week all i wanted to do was catch a fish and cook it on a fire like bear grylls and my chance came with a deep hooked kelpy cod caught on prawns . Gutted then washed in loch and filleted and done on our fire all within 1/2hr we all had some absolutely beautiful with butter n salt mmmmmmm
As darkness approached we put on the hokkaiis and tried baited sabikis which dragged fish out constantly doggies poor cod and grey gurnards we all had spurdogs to so all target fish caught and plenty of others to
As it started lashing down we took cover in our den which proved to be another memorable high light lol......as the rain gathered on top whilst i was a sleep in a chair under it Chris tried to lift tarpauling and drenched me like an ice bucket challenge 3 in the morning the GIT
Final morning up early again and whilst chris still snoring away 1st cast each for me and rob both had another ray each plus mor doggies n small stuff
It was like fishing in a dream boys well worth the long travel and now we will be having an annual return to Crabstick Creek
Chris won the crabstick comp with a ray of 4lb 13ozs
Sorry cant put pics on but chris will put some in comments
