Members v Guests

Ok, so I'm bored waiting for the holiday to come around (just 10 days to go). :)

I have noticed that there is always far more guests online than members at any one time, usually at least 3 times more, sometimes 5 times more. Why don't people just join? It costs nothing, you don't have to post, just fill in a form that takes about 60 seconds. I just don't get it, what possible benefit is there from just looking?

You have to look at adverts and can't reply to threads or post your own, or buy or sell. Seems daft to me.

Any thoughts?

Mark probably mostly are members there just not signing in all the time they look in on the site

Just a thought, a lot may not have a pc at home and can only view at work, maybe they can't join as it would be via the works server and prohibited by an administrator, just a thought like.

There are also a large number of members who sign in but rarely if ever contribute... Membership means little, active membership is the key figure

This is typical of any forum were access to posts is allowed without membership.

A lot of people have no intention of contributing and just want to gather information. Many of the guests will be “bots” which arnt real people…I’ll not get into explaining that.
If it were my forum I would restrict access to members only, like WSF did fairly recently.
