As the Fisheries Quota Management Officer you will play a key role in managing the UK’s fishing quotas. You will be responsible for overseeing and keeping accurate records of quota transfers worth millions of pounds. As part of a dynamic team you will learn about and support all parts of our diverse work.
You will be required to build a professional relationship with different sectors of the fishing industry and governments of other EU countries. You will have the opportunity to attend important meetings and training events to develop a high level of technical knowledge of the fishing industry and fishing regulation so that you are able to provide expert guidance.
You will have a passion for the marine sector and be able to develop the skills needed to fulfil the MMO’s role as an enabling regulator. You will understand the importance of the regulatory process and the position of the MMO as a regulator, and effectively deliver fair, open and transparent decision making.
Essential Criteria
• Ability to meet the five core competencies in the capability profile at this level.
• Aptitude to work with words and numbers assessed through an online test.
• Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people, in writing, over the phone and in groups.
• Ability to interpret legislation/regulations and apply them to a range of practical situations/solutions.
• Capacity to work through complex processes and resolve issues to a satisfactory conclusion.
• Ability to plan, prioritise and control workload to deliver results to agreed timescales.
• Ability to influence a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, with the confidence to work alongside industry.
• Ability to access knowledge of wider industrial, professional, scientific or academic communities to gain access to information/new developments in marine management.
Desirable Criteria
• Knowledge and awareness of marine industries, in particular fisheries
The post requires occasional travel outside of the area to attend external meetings and visit coastal offices.
