I fished the Walkway last night 9pm - 2am, up to and just over high water. There was a gusty easterly blowing and the water was a bit choppy but I managed sit with my back to the wind so it didn't bother me. Quite a few floaters in the water but I didn't hook in to too much of it just the odd bit of weed and a carrier bag. Nobody else was there so I was Billy No Mates for a while until about 11.30pm when two lads turned up who only fished for an hour or so.
It was a quiet start with nothing at all until just after 11pm when I got a nice knock on my rod tip and I connected with a fish. It was giving a good fight so I was expecting a big whiting or something as cod for me usually just sit there and let you drag them in but it turned out to be a cod after all. My first cod of the season at 1lb 13oz caught on three raw prawns and a two inch mackerel strip. As I landed it the fish spat out a big prawn about 4" that it had obviously only just picked up as it was still alive so I put it on my hook and cast it back out hoping to catch another one. No knocks but when I retrieved I could feel something on the end which turned out to be a small one armed lobster. The lobster was size (10cm carapace) but not big enough to feed both me and Mrs Thunderpants so I decided to chuck it back.
Nothing else for the next few hours until I only had a couple of casts worth of bait left when I caught a dab 30cm on mackerel. I was also using lug and squid all night but nothing touched that except crabs and there were a lot of those about.
