F/S Rod

Hoping for some help lad's. I'm going to give the fixed spool fishing a go this summer, I've always used multi's but fancy trying the fixed spool. I've bought a Ultegra and now need a rod, I'm looking for a rod to use on clean / mixed ground. When I say mixed I mean S/S Pier and the likes. I understand longer rod's are key to getting the most out of a F/S, i'm not against continental type rods just don't want anything to soft. I have considered the new Sonik Gravity surfs, any opinions, also the new Sunset rods have been mentioned. Also do I need to be going towards the 15ft length or can 14ft be ok.
Any advice / recommendations appreciated, price not an issue.
cheers.

I use my fixed spoil on all my rods Andy and it is spot on. Even on Kompressor SS and the like. You will get away with using a fixed spool with any rods with k guides on. The longest one I have is my T1000 but it is for rough ground. Something out of the tip tornado range may be a good shout, or you could wait until next month or there about as there is 2 new eliminators coming out which are for lighter work than the T1000. This is exactly what I'm after, some for in river and clean beaches etc and when I spoke to Gary Pye he said best off waiting for these new rods coming out as they are excellent.

Cheers Sean. I might wait. Ive tried the F/S on the rods ive got. They feel to stiff for what i want. Im looking for something softer, probably looking towards continental type rod.

I use my fixed spools on my Eliminator E1000 (as much as a few people say its stupid doing so), but I've had no issues and its a totally different feel to using a multiplier. Feels easier to cast in a way, less effort and more distance, although putting power behind it can only pay with more distance in theory if done right. I don't like using braid though, haven't tried it yet. Been enjoying using mono though, casting just as well

Good advice from the lads so far.

Just wanted to say if your looking for something even bigger, I have a 16ft Greys Triplex I'm going to put up for sale this weekend on here for £100.

Thanks for the offer Liam. Bit to long though. Dont want to go over 15ft really.
Cheers
.great casting rods andy, very little effort needed, got 1myself.crap in windy conditions though.ps,canny price for yours liam, goodluck with future sale.:)

Triplex is a good longer rod for mixed fishing off a pier effortless distance from over head lob, reels pay a big difference in distance with braid, even more so than the rod, I had a triplex and fished shield groyne with it, with no problems. If your looking for a continental style rod you need to be looking at 15ft plus really to get that extra distance with little effort. But shorter softer rods work just need a better technique.
Century bb
Tip tornado ld
Kompresser s
Tip tornado sport
Zziplex m4 Evo
Zziplex lt bullet

All nice rods to use with braid at the shorter length except bb which is 14ft10

Funnily enough my first bash with the triplex was off the groyne, had a nice fish on aswell but snagged 3 times coming in before it was off – had to hold the rod as the snagged fish was biting so hard! Would have loved to have known what it was…possible decent bass I reckon? but that’s another story :D

Always another one out there! That bloody ledge of the groyne lol, heard of a few decent fish lost off it there!

I enjoy the mark, but it's probably the worst mark I have ever fished in terms of tackle lost. Even with a rotten B on it's still hard to get in and that ledge or whatever it is...nightmare. I think the bottom must be like Hartlepool headland south of the Heugh - huge boulders sharply varying in size.

I can't work it out, I'm a decent chucker but I cant seem to ever clear the snags even with my best effort.

Pop into moonfleet and have a look at the yuki continental rods , some nice reasonabley priced rods , I bought the Kiiro surf at 4.5 m it casts 5onz with ease and I've lifted 2.8 fish over the fence at Jarrow with no probs , I've tried the sonik rods 14 and 15 and there a class bit of kit but canny pricey for ya first try , good luck in ya choice bud .

few times i have fished groyne over the last couple of yrs off end casting towards tynmouth pier on the flood i have lost no gear and had a few fish to 3 lb but i do reconise some have a prob on the groyne.

why not try lead lifts when fishing there.

I'll keep that advice in mind regarding the groyne, cheers lads.
Not my preferred mark and a fair way from home for me, but a good accessible mark when fishing with the oldies ;)
