Another trip from sunderland today. This time with a friend along from this site. Only problem is he is supposed to be on sick from work and his boss reads this occasionally.
So he will henceforth be known as Mr X.
We left the slip at 12.00 which was bottom of the tide. Collected a few crabs and mussels before we went ( planning for a late session on the mark I fished sunday) and headed out to the planned wreck at 9 miles from sunday.
Once again the decision was made to cut short the journey due to a heavy easterly swell so I dropped off at one of the wrecks marked on sunday.
it proved very difficult to drift the wreck as the wind was against the tide and first run we missed it by about 50 ft. Line back up and another drift and this time we hit it spot on with a very slow drift. We both were using bait with large hooks which suited the very slow drift (agonisingly slow at times)
As soon as the wreck marked on the finder my hook got caught up so I tied it round a cleat to break off.....BUT IT DIDN't....we were anchored up!!
I picked up another rod while the first one snapped and sent it down with a strip of mackrel. A few minutes later and the first bite which resulted in a nice cod of 5 lb...result.
Not a bad start.
Next bite was for Pa...sorry mr x...a small ling returned.
And then another bite for him.
A very nice ling of 15lb
This was followed by 3 more smaller ones...but then the inevitable happened and the line on my first rod broke. Not bad anchoring for 40 mins using 30lb braid and an 0/4 kamasan!!!
So we decided to anchor properly and continue fishing. But the wind against tide meant that we dropped anchor...set over the wreck and the lines went up anchor away from it. We got dozens of whiting so were obviously well away from the wreck itself.The only way to have fished it at anchor would be to drop the anchor in it which I was not prepared to do.
A huge rainstorm arrived so we decided to head inshore to the mark fished on sunday. Anchor down and bait rods out with mussel/squid and crab combinations. First bite for me gave a new NE first for me.
Followed by a huge lobster which let go as i lifted it .
After that all was quiet so it was time to head for home.
Not a bad day out with my first NE wrasse and a new biggest fish off this coast for the boat..
