hi lads need some help with this one just got a secondhand 7ht mag tournament (blue one) reel in mint condition just wanted to check the inside of the reel and bearings for oil.
for some reason I can not remove the spool from the cadge it will only move a short distance then stops and I dont want to force it in case I cause damage.
as this is the first time I have had one of these reels.
my m8 has the same reel and he has not problem removing the spool from the reel.
I know there are some lads that repair reels but they are on the locker and I am not on face book
any help or advice please

Bit of a head-scratcher, as I've never had any trouble removing spools from any of mine (well, I do have a habit of cramming the line on and usually have to peel off the leader in order to get the spool through the cage!).

Only thing that springs to mind, as it's something I've occasionally come across on a neglected reel, is that the end of the spindle might have seized into the bearing. However, you say it'll move a short distance then comes to a stop? The bearing in the mag-end should be held in place with a circlip, so there shouldn't really be any movement - unless the bearing has been removed & replaced at some point previously without the circlip being replaced.

Just an afterthought, but you have removed the handle/gearbox end to access the spool, not gone in through the mag-end?

the reel is as new never been taken apart and not full to the brim with line last owner to me the ree lhas never seen salt water .
had both side plates off just to have a look inside the handle side nice and clean also the left side the same there are three srews that hold the mag aassembly in place but I did not want to go any further.as I am not familliar with this type of reel
I can move the spool a very sort distance then it stops :question:
I used the reel the other week beach fishing and its perfect tried the mag control on most of the settings just to get a feel of the reel.
as stated before my m8 has the same reel and his spool comes out no bother
the only other person that may shed some light is ken ( himself on NESA)
he is on face book I am not.

They quite often stick just make sure when you try to remove the spool try & pull it out of the cage as straight as possible. Also be carefull with the mag end as its "magnafuge" & needs to be in correct position to work properly...

Ok, just another thought...you say you have removed the mag-end side-plate to have a look - when you did this did you have the brake-dial set to "Max"? It needs to be in this position to disengage properly and also in the same position when re-assemling in order to re-engage with the mag system correctly. If you haven't done this it just may be the cause - although if you've had it out since and everything is working correctly then it should all be ok.

Always a bit difficult doing a blind, long-distance diagnosis lol, but as himself pointed out it's more than likely just a little sticky...

I think they're great reels & love using mine given the chance - but it's worth getting to grips with their workings as they have a few common issues when neglected and definitely benefit from a proactive servicing regime! Also worth checking if it has been fitted with a pinion-support sleeve...if not I'd certainly recommend fitting one - I'm sure the lad you got the reel from will be able to tell you.

just a bit input, if you need a schematic with part numbers you can ring daiwa and they'll e mail yer a one, don't think the mag one is on their website.

thanks garry for that advice.thinking back I did not move the brake dial just tried to ease the spool out very carefully.

tried again to get the spool out mag on max just the same,
spool moves short dishance then stops tried to line the spool up small turns then pull nothing still moves short distance then stops.
thing is I dont want to force the spool incase I nack it up
also have just oredered a pinion support sleeve as recommended.
I tend to use my penn fathom 15 reels most of the time got the daiwa 7ht mag a spare reel as it was a good deal resent:
the daiwa will only get used on clean beaches or casting practice and boy do I need that
