me and kela66 had a hunt about last night, first stop was cullercoats. we only had a couple of chucks there and nothing turned up so we were back in the car off to blyth pier. when we got there a lad was getting his gear out the car and said he's had a walk along and there was one codling about 1lb 8oz's :(. we were there now so we thought we'd give it a go. we were going to fish just near the bend but there was a fair few there so we went further along. the wind was a strong southerly so casting was very hard and the sea was that big we couldn't hold bottom so we only had a couple of casts there. now off to whitley. when we got there our mark was free :D there was a fair few along the beach. the first couple of hours were dead, not even a bite. the half an hour before low water i got a knock, before i picked the rod up i could see it was on, in it came a codling 1lb 14oz's;). then after that all i could manage was a rockling. kela66 also got a blank saving rockling and on his last cast he managed a coalie. (he kept quiet about it until he had it in his hand;)). baits used were rag, lug, mussel, squid. we got talking to a load of lads last night and the only fish we heard about was a 5lber on tynemouth pier (lower tyne:D:D) and a 11lber from devils hole. we bumped into a member from here, nice to meet you tosh. there was probably a few more members from here but we didn't talk to everyone.

Hi mate, yes I was next to you on the pier (just past the bend). I stuck it out for about 3 1/2 hours but only had one bite - all in all a very poor night, I think only about 3 fish came in up to about 2 or 3 lbs, all to lads fishing towards the beach. Nothing at all came to the lads on the end.

i said to my mate that you were on the pier and when he seen the sonik he said thats g-force.we would have stopped to have a bit craic but we were heading to whitley to get on our mark before it was taken ;)

Don't blame you mate, I'd come onto the pier a bit early (expecting it to be quite full) thinking it would fish the last three hours down (about 9-12pm) but after being there from 7pm by 10.30ish I realised it probably wasn't going to happen so called it a night.

Took the Sonik for it's first outing for a few weeks (I managed to mangle a ring when my rod & tripod got swept along Whitley Pipe so it's been away for repair) - I don't normally use it on the pier as I like to fish there with 15lb line & lighter gear. However with that wind last night the extra power was useful & it holds up brilliantly in the wind - a lot better than me! Still, I did manage to pull in a few sinkers and bits & bobs so it wasn't a total loss.

Gary :)

cheers tony, we tried to fish the boathouse at high tide but were just getting washed back in, moved up to high shore but nowt, popped in on whitley beach and talked to a guy who also had nowt, still had me waders on but was too disheartened to get the gear out the car!

looking to tuesday morning for a bash!
