Am looking to buy a new pair of chest waders in preparation for the winter beach fishing, i have always had the same type of waders but fancy some neoprenes, not bothered to much about the price, any recomendations please ????...i remember looking a few years ago but seem to recall you needed to be like a stick insect to get into them wearing anything more than a tee shirt and shorts, are they still the same tight fitting....might as well buy a good water proof jacket at the same time..any recomendations welcome as i am getting old i feel the cold more ( soft ****e !! )

Just my opinion but i'd go for:-

Greys neoprene waders, greys fleece smock and a greys waterproof jacket!

That's what i wear and i'm always toasty warm and dry no matter how bad it get's and i go out in any conditions.

stick with the studded oceans and titan waterproof smock, you wont go wrong.
the neopenes are warmer granted but if your slightly above normal build they are tight, and if you move around from mark to mark you will sweat.
the oceans are far easyier to repair too, good luck on whatever you choose.

Hi Bob, my choice would be the Grey's neoprene waders and jacket too. I am the same as Gregg, I have the Grey's fleece smock to go under their Jacket too. That way it gives you a choice of how hot you want to be or if you have a long walk you can leave the fleece off. I usually wear the Grey's smock with just normal gear underneath but for really cold nights the option to wear both is handy. The studs take a bit of getting used too but after a couple of trips they are ok, that said though my previous waders didn't have any so they were new to me.

Hi mate, another vote for the Greys Apollos here. I'd also recommend the GRXi wading jacket - it's nice & short so you don't find lower pockets filling with water if you have to wade onto a mark. It's also very light & packs up small as well as being very waterproof - however in the depths of winter you'll need a good fleece underneath (only downside really is the price).

Also, just got a Daiwa waterproof smock recently - it's nice & warm & windproof, although I haven't been out in a real downpour yet to see how waterproof it really is.

Gary:)

Snowbees for me, boots are miles better build than the Greys especially if you fish a rock mark regular. The granite neoprene with the studed sole are the boys, hand warmer and flapped pocket on them too. Get a size larger than you're normal shoe size, by the time you put thick socks on it will be just right, my opinion.

Don't know about miles better like. I got mine the same time as a mate and he bought snowbees. We fish the same marks and mine don't leak........his do:p

Imax & Snowbee

Imax & Snowbee

I have an Imax Smock about 2years old and it is spot on, still water tight and has been machine washed about 10 times, steer clear of Titan Smocks i bought one and i got soaked through the "3rd" time i wore it .

i have Snowbee classic Noeprene chesties "fantastic" best bit of kit i ever bought always warm & dry up to your armpits (completely if with Imax Smock) the only thing i might change next time is i will prob go for studded sole for better grip but still happy with the ones i have

I use greys neoprenes with studded sole spot on,cant fault the ocean studded waders either though. As for smocks never had any bother with titan one`s.

thankyou all for the advice, i've always worn oceans, but me thinks it's time to splash out on the grays stuff...can you buy them from the alnwick place, just i am working at alnmouth late on next week

You can get them in the factory shop mate. They had some of the old style clothing going cheap as they have just brought out a new range.

I might be stating the obvious Bob but make sure you try them all on before you buy them mate, especially the waders. That said I took the first pair I tried on as they have plenty of give, thank goodness :D :D :D

thanks again for all the advice, will be going to greys next week, and assuming they do a chubby size, money will be changing hands.
