steer clear of the fladen multi`s, i have now destroyed three of them casting, the shakespear xp4000 is the same reel in another colour, basically the rachet comes on mid cast, second the level wind gives up early on as well, back up on both reels is short of abysmal, never owned a penn so i can only say get abu or shimano, both have good pedigree`sas to rods, i would if you can try as many as possible before settling on one, dont get fixed reel seats as you will find you have to adapt to suit the rod not the rod to suit you
