bait collecting

sorry not on Facebook,so unable to read ALAN.

Me neither Reg, just click on the link and you can read what NIFCA are asking. Seems like all the questions they are asking might have an effect on the shore angler. Have read a similar type of thread on WSF where the Cornish IFCA appear to be targeting the shore angler re bass catches. Bit out of the loop with fishing so little these days but the vibes I get seem to suggest IFCAs biased towards the commercials at the expense of me and you. Happy to be proved wrong though.

It’s interesting that people collect edible crabs, lobsters, other shellfish and fish from the shore but the questionnaire doesn’t mention them. It mentions bait collecting and seaweeds, mussels, etc. collecting.
NIFCA already have bye-laws in place to cover the things they don’t ask about, so now it looks like they are probing about extending what they cover.
If they had been more open about their intentions, they may find a lot more help in return.

Putting in place some limited restrictions such as no commercial digging in certain areas would have minimal effect on most anglers. It could also help head off the growing risk of restrictions hanging over us with the Highly Protected Marine Areas.
