Well me and Mick Dunn travelled up today after planning this trip a few weeks ago, we arrived at the Digs at Premier Inn between Arbroath and Dundee around 2pm and after a sarnie we travelled another 12miles North to my favourite mark at USAN.
With the water at low tide on arrival, things looked good with a nice South easterly blowing and some canny movement on the water.
Parked up at the Salmon Farm and walked about qtr mile South to a ledge I had fished the previous winter with good results.
Mick didn't like the look of it so went another 100 m and found a canny shot.
Baited up with Bluey and Mussel and lobbed it about forty metres into the hole in front, immediately into a fish weighing a good 3lbs, I had not even rebated and Mr Dunn returned to my ledge which HE DID NOT FANCY...talk about haversacking.
2nd cast lost a fish, 3rd another 3lbr out. Mick was chucking to the right whilst I chucked to the left...For the next 3 hrs I had a bite a cast as the tide pushed in, but got hung up with all the fish, they were slack lining the bait and heading down into the kelp and rocks.
Mick then pulls out a fish just under 3lb in the spot HE DID NOT FANCY, Which was quickly followed by another.
Well I must have lost well over a dozen fish along with 16 full sets of gear, so much for rotton bottoms... With Mick only losing 4 sets...
Great to be occupied all night but gutted with the loss of fish.
Micks quote of " Your hole looks better than mine " had me worried for a second.
Any way made our way back to the Fish Farm around 9 pm and bumped into a couple of Marines from Arbroath who had been fishing their National Championship qualifier. They had seven each from the rock edges and the biggest around 8lb.
" that ledge you fished is very tackle hungry ". Get away I replied.
They were canny Crac until Mick said we were SAS. (retired)
Well going back in morning to chuck another bucket of lead away.
Baits used were Bluey, squid crab blacks and cart....all got bites...

Good report, love fishing up there. Love usain mains, just about a mile north from the usain you fished. Look forward to reading more

Unlucky chut, forget standard rotten bottoms, use a 3 way swivel, 80lb hook length and 18lb lead length. Clip hook down with bait clip. Guaranteed lead loss every chuck but you'll get your fish. Big single hooks too, no pennel.

good read that lads hope you have better luck next sesh ive heard of some good catches up there its a long drive up there hope it pay's off good luck lads

ha. sounds like good banter, just watch out for mickys poaching next time:D

sure yous will get more good fish if they were biting like that:)

Nice to hear you are having a wonderfull time having a go in each others holes. Will youse be back for Sundays match?

Hello guys-was top dollar place to fish. Nice hotel in Dundee with lovely grub in the bar next to it. I was knackered with the walking, climbing and moving about but on this first day it was fantastic. We fished casting out from the ledge either side of a big rock in front of us. Chut to the left and me to a slightly smaller area of sea to the right. Chut could see I was unhappy fishing into my hole so he said I could come in his (ha ha). Anyway I thought no I,m sticking this out and was rewarded with a couple of decent Codlings. I dread to think of the score had Chut got all his fish in. His rod never stopped getting bites. But on striking and reeling in he got caught up loads and lost loads of gear. I felt sorry for the British policing champ as he drew 2-2 with me on day 1.
Top tip of the day if u decide to go fishing cliffs and rocks don,t go with someone from the marines those young lads who are excellent anglers were running up and down like cats on a hot tin roof. They even went back to their car for a break. When me and Chut got back up top from the ledge we needed an oxygen mask.

Hi Mick just a tip use something like mustad vikings they will bend out doesn't matter if you use rotten bottoms and some of these extra strong hooks you will never break out have a good time.
