Ideal for putting sandeel on as well. You can pre-whip your mussel, squid, razor etc on the needle itself and then push them onto the hook, no bother. One of the best things I've bought and they're cheap as chips.

Most grip lead moulds these days come with 2 short lengths of welding rod type wire which you put into the moulds pre drilled holes. Pour the lead, let it set then pull the wires out. Otherwise you can't get the mould apart. When the weights are cool, insert you grip wires and bend to suit. Simples!

If you can cast ok, a longer rod should make a difference, in theory. Don't know about the Leeda Assassin personally but a lot of manufacturers are going down the continental model rods. That is a rod that is a bit softer in an all through action, 15 or 16 feet in length and made for fixed spool...
