From Ocean Kayak and Johnson Outdoors here’s a double act which is hard to follow -the world’s best selling single sit-on-top kayak, the Frenzy, and the world’s best selling tandem sit-on-top kayak the Malibu Two. They are so popular because they offer the affordable way to get afloat and have some fun. The self-draining, open cockpit design of sit-on-tops also makes them very safe for beginners and experienced paddlers alike.
The Frenzy, priced at £299, is 9’ (2.7m), has a beam of 31” (78.7cm), weighs just 43lbs (19.5kg) but has a carrying capacity of 275-325lbs (124.7-147.7kg.) It has a large roomy seat well, plenty of storage space in the tank well which includes a bungee to keep things secure. For watertight storage there’s the option of a 6” hatch. It also has a moulded-in cup holder and moulded in foot wells.
The Frenzy is a sit-on-top which is incredibly versatile, very manoeuvrable and offers great stability whether you are paddling at sea, riding the surf of exploring calm waters.
The Malibu Two priced at £399 is the first choice of many families because it can seat one or two adults, plus a small child. Weighing just 26.3kg (58lbs) and with a length of 3.7m (12’) it is incredibly easy to launch and transport – like all Ocean Kayaks it’s car toppable and perfect to take along on any camping trip.
Features of the Malibu Two include three moulded in seat wells, self-draining scupper holes, stowage hatches (optional), backrest straps, gear straps, toggle carrying handles and overlapping footwells to allow 2/3 people to sit comfortably.
Both craft with their tough polyethylene construction are incredibly durable – and virtually maintenance free. They are also environmentally friendly because materials used in their manufacture are repairable and recyclable.
