Not being clued up on Modern Tvs - anyone out there have any knowledge of what is better Plasma or LCD - heard many stories about if you pause sky or a kids game (Wii ??) it burns an image on the screen - maybe this was years ago when they first came out ?

any info is appreciated

bri i have a 37" viera plasma downstairs and a small 20" lcd up in the bedroom, the plasma wins by miles, you can veiw the flat screen plasma nearly anywhere in the room. as soon as you move from normal viewing on the lcd tv the pic changes colour and the veiwing is ****e, its ok for the bedroom. as far as image burns on the screen i think the new tv's are so much better and i dont think it hapens as much these days , especially if you are buying quality gear
this is the tv and its had some good reviews
PANASONIC TH37PX70 Panasonic 37" Plasma Overall, the Panasonic TH37PX70 handles standard as well as high definition content superbly and is one of the best 37'' plasmas currently available.

BRI. My understanding is buy a plasma if its 46" or bigger you are after and if you watch a lot of sport as there is no 'drag' when things move fast. If its 'normal' telly you watch a lot then go for the LCD as the screen should last longer and the modern ones give you 170 degree viewing angle. If you go for the LCD then get a 1080 pixels which is high definition and you can get some cracking deals. The likes of John Lewis and Fenwicks give 5 year guarantees and price match so find the cheepest model you are after and see if they sell it.

Things may have moved on but three years ago i was thinking of getting a huge plasma, the guy who fitted my Sky told me not to bother if you have a small room.
Said you could end up seeing almost every pixel if too close.

I'm also looking for a flat screen tv aswell and also ain't got a clue. Found this site which I'm still looking thru at the minute, some canny info in the reviews section.

Hope it helps you Bri.

Got a Hitachi 42" plasma, had it over a year, cracking telly. Kids play loads of console games on it, no problems at all with screen burn.

Bri, we had a good look round at them both a while back, the biggest thing I found was, if you are in a room where there is a lot of light reflection the Plasma screens showed it all where there was no reflection on the LCD at all.

Best thing to do is have a look in Curry's and find yourself a sales rep and ask loads of questions mate.

Jim.

Bri ,I've had my panasonic lcd telly for a couple of months now and since I connected it via HDMI cable to my V+ box ,which is cables version of Sky + I'm well impressed mate I can tell you ,colours are great no matter where you sit in the room and I've not noticed any pixelation even sitting close to it which is good for 42 " from what I've heard ,try Richer sounds in Newcastle the information you get from them is second to none .

With respect to the 170 degree viewing angle. My own experience is that this only applies in the horizontal plane and not in the vertical plane.

I recently bought an LCD for the bedroom and it was placed on a corner shelf some 6 foot above the floor. Whilst laying in bed and directly in front of the screen but at an angle of some 30 degrees from the vertical the picture was useless. But standing up and viewing at a shallower angle the picture was OK. Asking around I was resigned to buying a tilt and turn corner bracket (quite expensive at £50+ ). Then I tried tilting the screen over and discovered that it could be tilted by a significant amount before the centre of gravity moved over sufficiently to topple the TV over. So I cut a piece of 3 x 1 inch timber and placed it under the back of the TV's stand. This tilts the screen forward enough that I now get a perfect picture whilst laying down in bed :-).
