fixed spools

Horses for Courses.

I've made my longest 100gm cast with a FS :D:D

OK it's not the magic 300 but it was a long way - for me. ;)

I did suggest a while ago that F/S users be allowed to use lower dia lines than the multi. e.g. 175 .31mm 150 .28mm 125 & 100 .25mm 50 & 75 .20mm
this would probably bring everything much closer in terms of performance.

It wasn't accepted, and now isn't really feasable with the 100g being on .25mm. A big mistake in my opinion, as it was an equal for the 125g on .28mm, proven not only at the UKSF but at the NWSA as well.

Never mind, when the Icelandic Surfcasting Club is up and running there might be some new records coming from Iceland? We get some BIG winds up here and DEEP low pressures, plus everything seems to fly further up here anyway due to the colder air. Should be an interesting summer, 24 hour daylight so maybe midnight casting comps

I'll second Peter's comment,

A quick win for fixed spool casting distance is the reduction of line diameter, as has been observed since the introduction of 0.25mm for the 100 gram lead. I would like to see the downsizing of running line diameters continue across all leads, and as braided line is becoming more popular there is a strong argument to reducing line diameters, Although braid itself may not be suitable on the field for various reasons. I would allow the use of thinner monofilament lines, but also allow the choice of using larger diameters if the caster wanted, that way your not forcing people to use thinner line if they don't want to.

Any means of handy-capping based on a head start whether that's moving up the court or adding an adjustment afterwards would not work. Ultimately the two types of reel should not compete against each other and should be considered different classes. It's a bit like a motor race between a G-Wiz and a Porsche 911. The Porsche would win the petrol driven race but the G-wiz would win the electric driven race.

It wasn't accepted Will so I never bothered trying it. I only ever cast F/S to try and encourage more anglers into the sport as the majority use F/S. It was TC's idea but the mags never picked up on it so it didn't really work!

the trend for most rod manufactures is to sell rods rung up for multiplier too, take a look in the majority of top end mass produced rods in the rod racks

There are so few sales of fixed spool rods at the top end, it's not commercially viable to sell them.

At the top end, definately. At the bottom and middle levels you would be onto a loser if you just did multi versions.

perhaps if a more developement of f/s would bring em im line with multi reels, shimano (soz mate)seem to have the edge and diawa a close second
