Had a quicky session after work today, finished work at4.00pm and headed for the cliffs at whitburn, cracking sea running.Had some smelly bait off a few days ago and some freh runnydown, rag and razorfish.Got to the mark and realised i had forgotten the rodrest, disaster, anyway made use of a deep rat hole to support the rod.First cast with a 6/0 pennell pulley rig with a rather large bait resulted in a 3lb cod which i dropped on the lift, two fish followed in succession a 2lb cod then a 3.5lb cod, next a short lob into the surf about 40 yards after about two minutes rod bent right over and slackened off, reeled in about ten yards of slack and struck into a decent fish landed red cod 4.5lb, after this beauty got two fish 1.5/b followed by a 2lb cod.By this time the water was quickly emptying from the mark must have only been fishing in 3ft of water, chucked out another big bait of smelly lug and razor fish after 5 minutes rod tip went apesh@t wound in the slack and struck into another decent fish, this was a lot bigger, started pumping it in difficult to keep the rod tip up as the rod was nodding really hard, one hell of a bend in a 14ft nemesis plus, fish came to the surface about twenty yards out and hook catapulted out of its mouth, absoloutely gutted, hard to give an accurate size but possibly a double.
Next cast resulted in a birds nest and a snap off,too much excitement i think.
And that was it for me,but really enjoyed the session and back in the house for seven,Shame about the big one but that will keep me going for another decade.
