Red groyn

if you mean the groyne at s/shields along near the walkway

only fished it once casting into river side facing tynemouth and pretty clean bottom but casting off the front towards the 2 piers was snaggy you can use a 2 hook flapper or pulley rig worm or crab baits shud find fish i wud say 40 yards plus shud keep ya clear of the snags close in but reel in fast to avoid any

parking park in the hotel carpark next to the groyne

:o didnt have any bother last time oh well i wont bother next time ya can park next to the houses next to yaht club if ya have plenty of money for a repaint job cos ya get ya car keyed also

codseekers just about got it right, fish in to the river with fresh/frozen crab or worm baits theres a ledge around 40 yards out that will claim a lot of tackle if you dont clear it,the further you get out in to the river will give you a better chance of getting your gear or fish back, rigs are a personal thing but i like up and over rigs with at least 4ft of hooklength pennel 3/0s tight to the river bed,on the bigger tides expect to loose gear or move to the elbow (behind the hotel) and cast short .....

a 10lber in the Tyne could come from anywhere mate, hebburn has produced a few 9lbers this winter i know of,and the big 20+ from smiths dock last year just shows they could be anywhere,i was suprised at the 5lber at the copthorne definetely just a case of right place, right time .....

Park in the hotel car park if you have plenty of money and don't mind paying a fine for release of a wheel clamp ;)

few mates and i have fished there plenty of times the last few months and had no bother, in fact was there yesterday and watched them put up their xmas tree, and wev'e never been clamped, also there have got to be signs displayed and iv'e seen none

Hang on mate, it's a bicycle culture these days, there's loads of them wizzing around. I wasn't having a pop:D. Wish I had one to get along the pier, if the gate was open like. Anyone know when it will open?

think there is only one pier were you can fish now in the north east and thats only seahams north pier even then you have to be a member.

red groyne has been fishing since the summer lads i know from teeside have been fishing it mainly on the small tides using fresh crab and have been doing ok codling to 4lb casting towards tynemouth pier on the flood using grip leads.

also been told from a reliable source its a good shot in a big southeasterly dying sea, ebbing moderate sized tide using crab fresh if you can get frozen otherwise again casting towards tynemouth pier.

Last time i pulled into it mate "last year" at least, the first sign i saw was patrons/residents only....I ignored it and parked up, got out of the motor and was just about to get the gear out and a jobs worth came straight over and laid the law down about what "could" happen if I parked there. Needless to say, paying for a ticket in the car park close by made sense. Best of luck if you can get away with it.

PS next time you drive in...open your eyes and read the signs ;)
