Hi just wondered if anyone has used sprat as bait for cod ,ive heard of people putting hooks in them then freezing them and using em on a session as needed ? is this right if so has anyone used them and this method your comments would be grateful

Regarding the poor angler who lost his life shouldnt we organise a competition in his honour and donate prize money to his family ?

RIP TO THE ANGLER IN NEWBIGGIN AND GOD BLESS HIS FAMILY

Never used sprat but 1 of the cod i brought in the other day had about a 6" eel down it's throat. Another was spewing some of the guts of 1 of the ones i had just gutted & thrown the guts in the water. So basically it seems they are eating anything & everything.

Ive never used them before, dont see why they couldnt be used .Ive caught cod that have spat out rockling and prawns amongst other things.supose its about scent and how hungry they are .The fish on my last few sessions havent been hungry at all ,the buggers

many moons ago I was fishing Castle Rocks with a few others in a big open, we had not had much and with the big tide we were a good way out. A young kid arrived if I remeber right he was about fourteen, with trainers on. He stayed way back from us and cast a great chunk of mackerel as far as he could, his sinker bounced off a rock not far from us and plopped into the water. the next thing we know the lad is nearly dragged off the rock as he pulled in a cod of about 4-5lb. Fish, especially big cod will take any bait as they just hoover anything up that gets in their way.
