Get some divers/diving groups on board?

Passing thought.

There's a load of divers and diving groups in the North East, why don't we try and get some on-board (pun!) for the mutual benefit of both of us? Some of you boat guys have a wad of sites marked both wrecks and interesting rough ground and these guys are in the water where we're fishing so could give some excellent info on the state of the fishing grounds.

We've both got a similar interest in enjoying the sea while, as clearly demonstrated on this and other fishing sites, looking after our seas and the life within them. Collaborating to me would seem a sensible and very positive thing.

This came about after reading up on Chesil Beach and the Trigger fish there, loads of info from the divers and they were talking to the anglers too... We've 2 sports that share a common interest - the sea and what is in it....

I would think there would be a lot of doubt on both parties about giving away info.
Could be a conflict of interests.
Divers Hacked off if they turned up to dive a wreck and found 2/3 boats over it and ditto in reverse.
Its a good idea but given human nature i doubt it will ever really take off.

I remember that happening, we'd been fishing a wreck for about an hour when a rib full of rubber johnnies turned up, now if it had been the other way round and we arrived to find divers on the wreck we'd simply of moved elsewhere. Not these fellas, they waited till we'd drifted over then dropped their dan right on the wreck, we were there first so the skipper set the next drift which resulted in all three of us getting snagged on their dan rope although we did managed to drag it a fair way before our lines snapped. Not saying all divers are inconsiderate to$$ers but these few were, as are the kind souls who liberate lobsters from pots with a sharp knife .

i know a couple of divers and they keep giving me s**t cos of all the lost traces they find:eek:, and me being me i told them to collect all the weights for me :p

Hate this to look as if i`m "just agreeing" with Keith cos he`s a mate, its certainly not and this in my own view .... but ..........

I`ve had a couple of fist shaking moments with divers ....... (polite speak)
as I`ve been fishing a wreck, line in water pirk being ripped and they came within 5 metres (close enough for them to hear what i said ! ) and went in the water ..... doh!

what prix ......

I`d never drop a line if there was a diver in the water ... simply move on ........ but they don`t see it that way ............. apologies just in case there are any out there with brains reading this .....

Skull was onboard the day I mentioned above so you can imagine some of the exchanges, well not so much exchanges, more like a one way torrent :D

yeah looking back I think it must have :) :)
( I was young and tempestious then though .... much more melow and controlled these days :) :) :) ) ..... lol well we`ll see this summer if it repeats :)

keith, LOL I`m sure there were several occasions that year , and skull must`ve been on another one ....... but I remember him protesting at a weigh in ! ... haha couldnt hear the prize winners names ......

Reet then lads...... I'm a diver and one with brains :-D at least i think,,,pmsl

I've fished eyemouth and divers have dropped in and started swimming in the gulleys i was fishing.....Tits!!!

I've also been diving on a wreck just outside the Tyne and boats have come along when clearing marked we were there and started ripping right on top of us..Tits!!!

I think the arguement will and can swing both ways just on here it'll obviously be biased and we will hear a lot more about divers being twots!!!,,lol

The idea in general is a good one about divers telling all about topography etc... and fisherman telling of wrecks etc.. but as has been pointed out it would turn into a race to get to the places talked about.

Cheers

Tony

Ps If i was going diving and a fisherman was already there i woudn't dive ;-)

First come first served in my book. Also it's a little dangerous diving with big hooks, rippers and line etc... thrashing about under the water!!

Cheers

imagine you'd get a canny scrap off one on light tackle though

wouldn't recommend using the gaff though

seen it happen on shields pier a few years ago, about a dozen anglers fishing up from the blocks, rib turns up, divers go in, then the guy on the rib starts screaming 'cos there's divers down'

Norman, as soon as Lee started this thread I thought of you mate. I still have a mental picture of you trying to type and growling but your fingers not going fast enough to keep up with the angry thoughts :D :D :D

Jim.

Until it was mentioned, I didn't remember - lordy my memory is getting worse! Do recall the post though once I read it!
Hadn't considered the 2 sides approach, shame about the opposing views though, we *should* be helping each other out, but yeah humans can't get on together at times, which sucks....
