  • Century G-5??

I\'m currently casting with one a \"prototype\" penn ppt copperhead and like it a lot.. it\'s easy for me to load and i\'m getting high 600\'s which for no more than i practice i\'m very pleased with..

Recently saw something about a Century g-5.. not too pricey and looked interesting..

    any thoughts appreciated... thanks

I have three of the avet reels right now.. all sx\'s... they are the reel deal! they must have a simple static mag conversion to be controllable but to me are as good as anything i\'ve used..

hi thumb burner ,these avet reels how do they come straight from shop have they any breaking system on them , they do look a solid reel but are they as good as the abu range, nothing beats abu in my opion for distance and do you think the rate of retrieve is down a little on the avet apposed to abu 5;3;1. friends of mine used to buy the newal reels from america when the dollar was right they just used to use oils to control them never see them now ,hav,nt forgot about century g-5 rood will make enquirys

the avet is a lever drag.. and they are designed to put the reel in a very light drag setting and use that for cast control.. personally, i don\'t like that idea.... other than that, no control.. they are VERY fast... it is very easy to put a small plate in the sideplate and stick magnets to it ..

the drag is incredible.. honestly, i think it casts nearly as well as a 525 mag... VERY solid little reel.. the retrieve is 5.1:1 and the spool is quite a bit larger in diameter than the abu but very narrow... so far, no downside to the reels that i can see..

got the g-5 today.. haven\'t cast it yet, but seems like i got a lot for a little money!!

Missed this post due to holidays and just found it by accident lol.
Are you talking about the Century G-5 Super Sport by any chance.
I have one and think it is excellent.

i have a 14ft. version which was specially made up,i find it very good to cast and loads quite easilly.the butt is quite thick so anyone with small hands might have a few problems gripping the reel.it does have a very nice fishing tip though.cheers john.
