As you know I am not involved with Shimano any more so I don't need to say this...but, the Aero Technium is definately the best reel out there at the moment. I agree smaller diameter spools are better, and I asked Shimano to make a reel with a spool of similar dimensions to the Daiwa, with the super slow oscilation of the Technium. If they did this it would produce some stupendous distances! As it stands the Aero Technium is worth about 10yds over a fixed spool with normal line lay.

I remember casting up in Scotland using the Aero Technium, and casting further than I cast a multiplier on the same day!

happy new year to yoos all ,I agree with peter on the shimano its got the best line lay but the spool needs to be like the ts6ooot/millionmax if you could get these together and an even lighter all in weight it would be a superb reel as for andy,s earlier question on ABS spools work it out for yourselves A absolute ,B bull, S sheeeeeee you know what i mean ,its just another money spinner to slim the wads down of the sufern carp anglers , its like all the camoflage accesories unless you was fishing on concrete you would be scared to put the stuff down for not finding it again ie camoflaged weighing scales .
i wonder if this post will get any backs up

                          Peter (T),
I've heard you say that the Aero Technium is worth 10 yards before, which reels are you comparing this with? Did you ever cast with a TS6000T/Millionmax 9000 to make a direct comparison between the reels? Before using the Shimano what where you using?

The 2007 Shimano catalogue quotes "80+ coils per upward and downward traverse of the rotor", is that 40 up and 40 down? or is it different for the up stroke and down stroke.

My concern with the Shimano and its close wrap (cotton reel style) is when line is peeling off from the back to the front, is there a restriction created by the coil immediately in front. This would be similar to the Daiwa ABS principle giving that idea some credence, and like others I'm not convinced it has any benefits. If I had some data on the Shimano I could draw a picture to explain my concerns.

Sorry for all the questions (Techy Stuff) but I am facinated by the engineering behind it all, perhaps I should chill and open a bottle of Morrisons Best Cider, but then I have to work in the morning.

One thing for sure, Shimano or Daiwa, fixed spool reel technology has come a long way from the Mitchell 498 of yesteryear.

The multiplier lads have it easy, with so much after market tuning bits.

Chris, thats based against casting with a Millionmax [unmodified], a Big Pit Baitrunner and an Ultegra. All those reels are around 20yds down on a multiplier, the Aero Technium is about 10yds down.

The line lay is 40 up and 40 down Even with the line lay that close the coils aren't directly behind each other. I don't have anything to measure the length of the spool here but its much longer than even 40 turns of .35mm line.

GOD!!!!! how technical is this thread, its got me eed buzzin.
the abs system that daiwa employs certainly works well for waggler fishin DUDES.
as for tossin lumps of lead across a field, theyre all the same coffee grinders, apart from that thing peters got, that dead light coffee grinder, now that was some reel and some price i believe
