NSW casting Federation Results ( Australia )

I have gotten back from my short drive up to Port Maquarie NSW approximately 2600 km 's as a round trip , and I must say that I enjoyed all of it including the driving.

Conditions on the comp days was best described as difficult with High Humidity ( 95% + ) low to no wind and barometer at 1011 +. It was overcast with a few sunny breaks that just increased the humidity.

Results were as follows:

New face was Gary Bowen ( Hope I got your name correct Gary )

The Secon Day was full UKSF style and conditions were worse that the Saturday with basically no wind and waht did occur was variable and changing with the first session seeing us casting straight into it.

No official scores were registered but top distance was achieved by Scott Selby with 175 Gram at approx. 229 meters

My best was approx. 212 with the 150 gram

Ian Camerons 210 with 150.

And Gary did extremely well with casts in the 150 range. Given the conditions and first up casting comp doing OTG it was a great effort and we look forward to seeing him again .

Even though conditions were hard on the casters everyone had a great time.

Those are interesting results Jeremy...well done everybody.....poor conditions seem to be about all over at the moment..

So what is the set up with the level line??

Seems to me a great chuck... level line.... 210mt on 112g

The 210 meter level line was a fantastic throw by Lee and even more so due to the conditions.

Level line is casting without shock leader and using the same line straight through to the weight.

Lee was using fireline match to a Diawa 3 piece tournament rod and Diawa long cast threadline. I think it was the Basia 4500 but I will need to check with him.

I have plenty of video footage but it will take time for me to compile it and put it up.

Do you get many crack off's with the level line? (these cause problems for us over here.) What diameter line is used for this? good distances by the way.

One of the most important things that I learnt on the weekend is that if you do not have the correct connecting knot you will snap off far easier.

We were all using a Bimini Twist knot first and then connecting the doubled line to the weights.

I was extremely supprised at how much more pressure that I could put into the cast using this method as apposed to a standard knot straight to the weight which would snap at a lot less pressure.

I will post up some of the video footage to show you how fast Leigh was hitting the rod.

Line rating was from 8 to 14 pond firelien in most instances.

fireline is sold as a braid in this country was you using mono???

Without seeing the video, are you castin otg as i would think a pendulum would be too severe?....

We used to cast level line in the UK but it was a dying art which faded away....Lionel Stead from the NWSA used to do it......can anybody remember it??
