hi how many of us have designed our own cast without copying someone elses .myself i tend to copy i aint clever enough to say thats my cast.reading summit on another forum niel mackellow was describing his cast ,i could get some things wrong here but here goes a lot of us tend to admire mackellow and to a certain extent try to copy. he said in thread think i am right here the quattra was only rod he could do his cast with and the butt he was using on it was a softer than the shop versions.it does get me thinking that rod choice does it realy matter is it criticle or not. i know a lot of real good casters look on here maybe they have some thoughts.regarding soft butts i thought the idea of casting was to have a stiff butt to use as a lever but these days softer butts are more parr for the course, mackellow also says a rod has to be 9tenths busted i dont know.paul kerry years ago using the awt129 surely could not of had the butts on them rods bent they seem realy stiff to me.

now john you,re bound to have started something talking about firm and soft butts on here, but if you are talking rods and bending butts and copying, you need to be a strong lad to bend some of the butts i,ve seen. i prefer a but with a bit of give in it, mainly cos stiff, uns make my old bones rattle a bit.
i saw niels rod that he used when he was top man, when he took me round the zippy factory. --- very nice bit of kit.

hi old chukka, i am pretty sure about what i am about to say niel was saying the quattra he had with softer butt than the shop version was the only rod which he could do his cast with, saying that i have watched him with penn rods doing what looks like same cast to me. i am sure i read this not too long ago on his forum. its easy to start a thread like this and so easy to get shot down thats why i sometimes i think why bother with forums. another thing that comes in at times is you get accused of being to technicle ie techno babble but if like me i like to understand things, if you dont like to know things how do you start your cast as simple as thatdid you know panel pins comes in diff sizes ?

i prefer mine nice soft and round something you can get your teeth into but if your talking rods i like a little give in mine so you can feel the cast with stiff buts you tend to lose the feel of the rod well in my opinion anyway im sure somebody else will be different my cast simmular to neil kelland.Last edited by BAZZ B; 02-08-2007, 02:19 PM.

I'm very much of the opinion if you cant bend it, it wont go!!!
As for copying styles, just to mirror what has already been said, I think everybody has aspects of other peoples casts in their own, whether hi or flat it has all been done before.
Everybody's cast is there own.Last edited by josh; 09-08-2007, 06:30 PM.N.W.S.A straight outta Cockerham
