when n.w casting was at rossall i bought a brand new smock off one of the lads, put it on, cast ,and set off to get a measure. half way down was a bank with a pool of rotton stinking water with frog spawn cow s--t you name it. jumped over onto the bank, -- teetered on top for a couple of secs, then landed on my back in the mire, - filled the front pockets with frog spawn.
nobody would come near me for the stench. kept hold of my rod though.

          funny eh!!!

I remember Billy Smailes (smiler) at the UKSF wanted a chuck with the new Dawia rod Paul Kerry was testing out.Well he got his wish but the tip smashed off and bounced off his heed and stuck in his ear.
A lot of blood so he was sent off to hospital for stitches.
Billy returned with this bandage Bin Ladin would have been proud of, a full wrap on the heed down to ears!.
He then continuded with his turn in the casting,it was raining heavy so we wrapped a towl on top of the bandage to try and keep his heed dry.
What a sight, Billy was a top Guy we all waited for Billys turn to cast and clapped him on the field.
On the long drive back to the north east we kept passing each other in cars, when passing Billy we all had towls wrapped on our heeds, Billys gasket was blowing hard.
He rang me a week later and asked me did I send him PLASTIC ear in the post.
Did I , no it was Malcom Barrow not me Billy.

remember that one also john,he nearly strangled himself with the rod as he went down in slow motion. funny !!!!!!! i nearly wet meself.
also at kirkleatham, kids pinchin 250 flags and andy the wippet reagan, peltin off after then ,to cries from bazz b. of RUN FOREST RUN.
and heres the funniest 1 ,i think, when i got a decent cast away ,i used to hang on and hang on b4 i'd put me thumb on spool beleivin it gave me that extra half milli distance then used to spend 10 mins pullin birds nest out b4 goin down to reel that 300yarder in.LOL!!!!!!!.anyway ADIE DUNN used to shout NOW! NOW! NOW! at the end of the cast. never took any notice, of course so started shoutin it all thro cast. then one day forgot to disengage spool and drag, hit ground and planted lead 4ft under soil about 4 yards out. he didnt have time to shout now and it didnt overrun cos i had no skin on thumb, but adie did see the funny side of it as he lay in a puddle of tears.

                      lug dealers

nowt to do with chukkin, but the funniest i ever heard was the lug smugglers at kirby- stephan, plod turned out in force to catch the notorious gang dealing at a local garage. made the national press, cost the cumbria police a fortune, i had met the blackpool courier just off the motorway to pass on my stash or i would have been nicked my self.
