hi martin ,anyway its yourfault i have lost 40yds if you had,nt of sold me that stiff xtr i would of bought a diff rod and would of put 40yds on so instead of now casting 2ooyds i would of been up to 270yds you are to blame, blackpool comps if there is still enough sheep to go around i have asked len about this i will go over after holidays i will show you you might be past it but i still feel like a spring chicken

          hi ian,
5500 & mag 2s are ideal reels for what the grass lads use ,if you cast a 175/150gm lead the transition to 125gm some what differs , the 125 gm is a light lead ,generates more speed during the builld up to the hit ,and can sometimes more often than not catch you out and ,hit the deck. its a bugger when it wants to.use slightly longer drop ,about 2-3inches to what you,re using for the bigger leads ,this is to slow the cast down. line dia for 125gm grass casting is 0.28mm. hope this helps

Hi Will, thanks for the advice. The weather has put a stop to any serious casting practice but hopefully I'll get the chance to have a proper go with the 125g this coming week. I'm still busy converting my um2 but can't wait to have a go with it.
I'm interested in coming to one of the casting tournaments that you're busy sorting out but feel a bit intimidated to be honest! Some of the proper hardcore casters seem to be chucking some serious distances.
            Thanks, Ian.

standing on the oche for the first time can be a bit daunting for some ,however ,advice and encourangement from fellow casters is the best remedy.you,ll be a more confident caster after just 1 day, then unfortunatley you,ll be hooked. we,re a canny bunch of lads willing to help

Hi Will, when I was much younger I cast at east halton (1981/82 I think) and also at a comp that Peter Thain organised at an airfield in Northumberland sometime in the early 1990's (if I remember he cast a north east record on the day, very good to watch).
I've enjoyed reading the posts on this site and I guess that's what got me interested but like I say I'm not a real big hitter so the thought of casting in front of people, other than when I'm fishing, is pretty intimidating to say the least. Don't know if I'd have the bottle to be honest.
                Thanks, Ian.

hi ian, east halton just south of the humber i was there myself in the eigthties only went to the one event and went to quite a few at driffield, howard grey the backcaster run the east halton one when i went and jeff taylor ran the driffield one them were the good times.oche bottle everybody gets that i believe and you most certainly wont be the only newcomer it only takes that one cast and you are away one cast thats all then you hooked, just meet up with someone going down and travel together its easier, chukka on here is from birtly there will be quite a few from around here meet up with a few for a practice session off beach thats a good idea theres no prob, anyway the crowd i know thats going down cant chuck any further than 100yds anyway theres no competition for me lol

hi bazz you telling fisherman tales now 56 hhaha, wish gary was still up here thought he was very good for his size barney was saying he has done 260plus before with 150 grm lead and his conversions were second to none , casting one day at rickleton with gary and barn gary said to me i can see summit you are not quite doing right i never asked him what more the fool me always remember that.
got some good vids here off years ago when seaham lads were right into it while i was on the drink plus nwsf events and uksf here if you ever want to borrow, remember jimmy donkin see him now and again does the odd bit of fishing but not much been trying to prise his synchro off him for years
