  • Questions about casting 125g

    Hi lads,
I've been looking through the casting results and noticed the popularity of casting with the 125g leads.
I'm gonna give it a go but I've only previously cast with 150g and 175g and I was wondering if there's any great differences that you have to make to your style or technique?
I've got myself an ultramag 2 and a magged 5500c, are these the reels that you guys use for the smaller dia. lines?
Also what make of lines do you prefer for casting? (i.e. colour and constant dia.)
Sorry there's so many questions but I've been curious about the lighter leads for a while now and didn't want to sound too stupid by asking!!
    Thanks, Ian.

      Reels And Line

him8, the two reels you have got are idealy suited for the 125 gram.high vis line is highly recomended, ie sakuma night crystal, sufix supreme 10lb .28,daiwa tournament 10 lb .28. all good lines and are consistent.as for style and technique i always keep my drop the same length slow in fast out practice makes perfect hope this helps you a little bit. bazz

hi ian, the reels certainly sound ok and it is still ok to use a mag3 or 6500 mag no problem. set up wise i'd used red rocket fuel in bearings, couple drops each bearing ok. line; i always found daiwa tournament best but can be expensive, .28 often on ebay have a look. suffix used to do line but i,ve been off scene for 2yrs so ask about. best advice on casting 125 is same as other leads, take your time make sure lead follows arc sweep of rod and nice punch, pull finish at end.if it goes low and left ,timing wrong and your rushing the cast. hope this helps and should see you pulling yr lead out 50 yards further down the court than everyone else lol. regards martin

hi dave i am the gentle giant cant hit things hard, anyway technique should do it thats why distances are crap.
dave you have a few reels can you remember a 6500 with a longer brass bullit in than norm you now the one i mean, when we take nylon ratchet cog out and put in brass bullit, they made a reel with a bullit in as new but was longer than norn i am after part number for it any idea
              john
ps normal bullits are 27,1 lg

Gonna have a look around and see where I can get some of the lines mentioned.
                              Thanks again lads. Ian.
