    seen them when serving on HMS Endurance in Antarctic. Very dangerous as sometimes so small don't get picked up on radar but can still sink you. Spent many an hour out on wings of bridge, freezing on watch looking for them. Mind this was in 1969/1970 radar will have improved by now.

      I have seen them in the South Atlantic. We had a night sight and had a lookout on the monkey island all the time, that was on passage to South Georgia. The radars did pick most of them up but not all, we just reduced speed at night to three of four knots so hopefuly if we did hit one it didn't do much damage!
