  • MOT failure!

Well the little Mazda failed it's MOT miserably - cracked ABS ring(nothing worse than a cracked ring!) and a knackered gearbox bearing. Serious money that the age of the car doesn't justify. So spent the day in search of a replacement.

Now Lynn thinks small is beautiful (fortunately), so cheap, low insurance, low tax and high MPG was the order of the day. Also as we know nothing about cars, she wants the "relative security" of buying from a main dealer. Of course most dealers don't stock the price of car she was looking for, so it took us a while.

Eventually we came up with this:

A wee Fiat Panda, the legendary "1 lady owner, full service history" and a paltry 18500 miles on the clock! Best things about it is a full 3 month warranty and a full year's MOT. We also shelled out another £194 for 2 services and 2 MOT's, which I thought was pretty good. Also got £500 for the knackered Mazda, which was great!

I really hate buying things I know nothing about. Obviously we do some online research, but I wouldn't know a dog of a car if it ran me over!

Let's hope this one does the job and lasts for a few years!

PS We took along our longest rod and rod rest to make sure they fitted. What weird looks we got!!

Pity it wasn't last year mate, I got a company car and flogged me 04 plate 2.0 petrol zetec mondeo for 1500 sovs to a guy in gateshead, it took a while to sell which amazed me as it was in excellent con and only 60k on the clock. If we could only turn back the clock and then yer could have had a real motor

give me a fiat over a ford or vauxhall anyday

had several fiats (and alfa's) over the years all have been good value for money, fun to drive and pretty reliable. had nowt but bother with every ford and the couple of vauxhalls its been my misfortune to own.

Some people are like slinkies - not really good for anything but bring a smile to your face when thrown down the stairs

Converting an MFV Fifie trawler type thing.

The panda is a decent car, but treat it to good oil every 2000 mile and she will look after you
If its got t1ts or tyres, its gonna be trouble.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you have an electrical problem

The reviews say different for the Panda. Time will tell I suppose. With less than 20,000 miles on the clock I am hopeful. Fingers crossed. Always the same with second hand cars I suppose.

Hope it does you right mark I think i would of went for the corsa beside your panda though fiat has a reputation for poor quality cars. But with that many miles on the clock I think you should be ok for a few yet

                            Beware the ringer

Hay Kay seem to recognise that motor - beware of ringers. Not a bad motor by the looks but would go for a Seat Leon any day rather than a Noddy Mobile
